I'll stick with not trusting miracle drugs, and taking my health and my future into their own hands. Unless I have a terminal illness that is going to likely kill me anyway, I'm going to try to battle it myself. I'm constantly battling with my anxiety and depression, but they most likely won't kill me.

That’s why eye exams are so essential. I think this is likely due to diabetes as opposed to the medication.

Maybe not by how it was described in the part of the article quoted.

A woman in my office is/was on ozempic and lost about 50% of vision in one of her eyes.

She left the company so don’t know if she ever regained it.

Are there any OT’ers that can confirm with their wife’s experience? My wife has a figure 8 - 8.5 without ozempic, so I can’t confirm, but maybe there are some baws on here who aren’t as lucky.

If your wife’s figure goes from a 3 to an 8 when taking ozempic, but she becomes blind, is this a win?

All drugs have side effects. Here’s another one. Not sure what else to say about it.

The study suggests there could be a link between semaglutide and ischemic optic neuropathy. The study wasn't able to determine that semaglutide caused this condition which is much different than diabetic retinopathy, the retina disease that can lead to vision loss in diabetics. More research is needed to determine if semaglutide can cause this condition.

American Academy of Ophthalmology

quote:

Here’s what the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society want you to know about this study published July 3 in JAMA Ophthalmology:

This is not the type of study that can show the treatment caused NAION. But the careful analysis conducted by the Harvard neuro-ophthalmology research team did identify a potential link between semaglutide treatment and NAION. This intriguing finding should inspire more research that will help clarify if semaglutide does cause NAION.

Semaglutide was rigorously studied in several randomized, controlled trials worldwide. The U.S. FDA approved semaglutide for medical use in 2017. Many millions of people take this medicine throughout the world. This is the first study to report an association between semaglutide and NAION.

The subjects in this study were either overweight or obese or had type 2 diabetes. People who have diabetes are already at risk of NAION. Other risk factors for NAION include heart disease, history of heart attack, high blood pressure, and sleep apnea.

All the patients included in the study were seen at the same large eye hospital, which treats most of the region’s NAION patients, making it hard to determine if this association is true of all people taking semaglutide. A postmarketing surveillance study – a type of study that monitors the safety and effectiveness of a product after it has been released to patients – could be helpful in determining if there is a connection between semaglutide and NAION.

It’s from the Daily Mail.

I would rather go blind than be subjected to reading their sensationalized clickbait shite house rag.

Going blind... a different level of risk altogether. Let's see how sales do when they put that in the disclaimer on the commercials.

Or, maybe people who like to think or question what they read in the Daily Mail. Their comments about diabetes causing blindness are not unreasonable.
