I have a friend who is a neurologist who is also board certified in sleep medicine, and he told me that for people who use Benadryl daily as a sleep aid, there is a four-fold increase in early-onset dementia.
This can be quite concerning for many people who have been using Benadryl in this way for a while.
We didn't get into the specifics when he told me that, so I don't have supporting pathophysiology to bring to this thread at this time.

“I’ve looked for a lot of things to blame for the disease, but this is a first”
Well it’s been out for a few years that anticholinergic drugs are associated with dementia.
That’s chronic use,not occasional use.
Benadryl crosses the brain blood barrier,is why it causes drowsiness.
A friend of mine told me when he was 40 he took Tylenol PM every night for sleep. He was diagnosed with dementia at 59.
He had been showing signs a few years before that, his memory had gotten very bad .He was a cabinet maker and he started botching up his jobs.He started getting lost driving places.
Wife took him to a neurologist where he was officially diagnosed.

Lol what could go wrong with his line of thinking.
I wish people could move 5% more and eat 5% less. The majority of people would see amazing health benefits. I understand there are outliers with certain medical conditions etc.

Many European countries are referring to Alzheimer’s as Type 3 diabetes.
Look at the explosion of Alzheimer’s diagnoses and the proliferation of processed foods. I’ve read studies where Alzheimer’s patients respond very well to low carbohydrate diets. Lower the sugar intake and brain function improves. Amazing isn’t it?!

Ozempic holds promise in treating Alzheimers disease

I thought statins like cholesterol drugs played a bad part In Alzheimer’s as well.

Well, if you use it daily, it stops working after about a month. That's fact, and it is true of all OTC sleep aids.

From MedScape, Mar 12th 2024:
A new study provides more evidence that sildenafil (Viagra) which is used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) may help protect against Alzheimer's disease (AD).
The large real-world analysis of patient data from two databases showed a 30%-54% reduced prevalence in AD among patients who took sildenafil (Viagra) than those who did not, after adjusting for potential confounding factors.
This observation was further supported by mechanistic studies showing decreased neurotoxic protein levels in brain cells exposed to the phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor (PDE5i).
This is the medicine I've seen that actually shows some promise as a preventative.
I get a lot of articles like this in my feed b/c of my interest in Alzheimer's and metastatic breast cancer.
More strides are being made in MBC pharmaceutical research; it's amazing, but can't get here quickly enough.

people struggle to change
Correct, and the remedy is always take a drug.
Look I'm all for Ozempic for the obese who just can't manage to change their lifestyle. But it's getting too mainstream where everyone who wants to lose their gut seems to champion it. These things never end well.

What add to the difficulty is the disease causes an increase in sugar craving for the patient. But it is definitely related.

People HATE it with a white hot intensity when obese people take effective weight loss medications. It’s been interesting to observe.
I always keep this stat about obesity in my mind: If you have HIV and take medication your life span is normal. If you have diabetes and take medications your life span is minus 14.
Anything that helps people lose the weight, avoid diabetes and ditch the high blood pressure/ diabetes/ statins etc sounds like a win to me.

Also the OT: damn I hate all these people who are no longer fat who used a drug to do it. I hope they die from that treatment.
