Although I back into parking spaces and try to park equally between the lines, some parking spaces barely have enough room for my average size truck and get dings on the door panels.
Smaller 2 door cars are more narrow than truck but have a wider door swing so its not always the vehicle type that's the culprit.
Beware of the Subaru Forester, Hyundai Santa Fe, Ford Edge, Kia Soul, Honda Civics, and Mazda CX-9s just to name a few.
Wide door swings of little cars
Or you could be like a lot of Beemer drivers who take up 2 spaces.

Even in small corner store or gas station parking lots. Is this some general rule? Are they assholes or do they just think they deserve special treatment? At least try to park between the lines you inconsiderates.
You should say something to them.
Or post about.

As one who designs parking from time to time, I can tell you that standard parking is between 9x18 and 9x20 with some instances being smaller (like a percentage of spaces used for compact cars.). On the surface your suggestion makes sense, but the issue would be the calculations that determine the number parking spaces required. There is only so much real estate to place parking on many of the lots that are available.
As one who drives an oversized truck (a crew cab Ram 3500 dually with a long wheel base), it depends on the angle of the parking. Angled parking I pull in, right angle parking I back in as it is easier to pull out of a space as compared to back out of the space. I always retract my mirrors if the space is tight.

So park away from the crowd so you can park however you want.
Because I may be having a bad day andnot be able to overcome my urge to key your a-hole car.

Guess they could squeeze in between the lines and then slam their door into yours when trying to get out.
I think a good general rule is that if you're not skilled enough to drive a truck that large, maybe don't drive it. That includes not being able to determine if your vehicle will fit into parking spots.
Do you take the same logic with fat people and airplanes? They should get two seats, right? Else they slam their fat elbows into your ribs.

Then you don't get to park in that spot.

I pulled into a gas station early one morning and there wasn’t really anyone there but a guy had parked sideways in the parking spots by the door. There were plenty of other places for me to park but just to be a dick I parked in the space right in front of his front bumper. Went to the restroom and when I came out he was sitting in his truck pissed. No idea why he did not back out but he sat there until I moved.

He never said the interstate. Ive had 100s of absolute jackasses in giant pick ups driving an inch off of my bumper when i have a vehicle in front of me. If im being tailgated its almost always some f250 or lifted truck endangering lives.

angle of the dangle is proportionate to the mass of the a.s if the heat of the meat remains constant, but if the space is tight swing your door open hard and get a rise out of the dead beat

If you’re going inside a convenience store, you’re already trashy AF, so what does it matter?

Get you a pack of these and stick on
I had someone stick one of those on my truck one time because I was taking up a second parking spot.
I guess they didn't see that I had to because the car next to me was on the line so I had to park on the line just to make it in the spot.
Wasn't my fault, but i still got a laugh out of the sticker.

Ya think maybe people that mark off parking spots should move out of the '50s and make spaces wider??
There are a lot of jurisdictions that require a minimum number of parking spots for retail establishments based on the type of business and the square footage. Making parking spots larger for people that cannot figure out how the lines work, or that need to slam the door all the way open to enter/exit their vehicles could put many stores under those thresholds.

Yes

Even with a base 1/2 ton, some parking lots are just poorly designed for them. Mostly a combination of poor turn radius(not size) and too narrow of lane for a wide turn.

Yup, not all parking lots are created equal which is why I always park far from the entrance since I don't want door dings and/or worry about people not paying attention when walking in the parking lot.
