The group found 55% of more than 3,100 beaches it tested in 2022 had at least one day where “fecal contamination” reached potentially unsafe levels, surpassing the Environmental Protection Agency’s benchmark for beach advisories and closures.

Even more disgusting, American shores are polluted with human and animal waste, dumped into the ocean from sewage overflows, factory farms and industrial livestock operations.

Texas beaches were among the worst in the nation, with 90% of the 61 beaches tested at unsanitary levels.

As a region, the Gulf Coast tested the worst, with 84% of shoreline failing to meet clean standards — followed by the West Coast and then the Great Lakes.

Louisiana and Pennsylvania, with its Lake Erie beaches, were the top state offenders, with its beaches at 100% safety failure.

The annual survey of beaches by oceans, lakes and rivers includes a feature where users can track beaches by by state.

Oregon’s beaches are the most consistently dirty in the US, with six of its beaches being at unsafe sanitary levels over 75% of the time they were tested, according to the survey.

I had a cousin(passed away,) that had a small shipping service company, he had a pretty good contract with NYC to continuously go around the boroughs with barges and collect all of the raw sewerage, after the barges were full of shite they would tow them out into the Atlantic to the exact minimum required and pump it all back into the ocean

Yeah, it is in the seaweed now. Typical fear mongering by CNN. The bacteria wasn't there when tested but it COULD be.

quote:

Article Title: What you should know about flesh-eating bacteria on beaches

Body of article: The authors didn’t find flesh-eating bacteria in the sargassum samples, but that doesn’t rule out the bacteria being present in any sargassum they didn’t test, said study coauthor Linda Amaral-Zetter, chair of marine microbiology at the University of Amsterdam, via email.

Sanitary sewer overflows are the main problem. It will takes extensive infrastructure work to fix issues.
