Everything you've posted about illegality says that it "could" or "may" be illegal.

But they are.

But they aren't.

Let's take my AI scenario and this person has 3 similar jobs.

Logs into computer every morning but maybe spends 30 minutes max a day.

These people are not working 120 hours, or even 40 hours.

But, if you work for company A as a salaried employee and don't actually work a full 40 hours, and use the "leftover" hours that you aren't actually working for company A to work for company B, you're arguing that is illegal?

At the end of the day, this will depend on the state it's occurring. As I posted, it was tried in Louisiana but shot down by the Louisiana Supreme Court. I learned something today, and I enjoyed the heated conversation.

I'm out, going hack up my lungs.

Why are we moving the goalposts?

Being “available” means actively monitoring and responding to work needs during paid hours, not just being at home with a laptop nearby.

Employers pay for active readiness, not passive presence. If you work 2 hours, then spend the rest of the day on something else while letting them believe you’re engaged, you’re misrepresenting your availability. That’s time theft.

He's working more than if he only had one of those jobs.

Yes, and you may face termination, civil liability or criminal charges.

If you steal $200 you might just get fired. Steal $20k and you committed a felony and might be forced to pay restitution.

Okay you win.

They worked 5 minutes more. Just not 40 hours more.

why is it pathetic? if your WFH job requires so little that you can handle 3-4x the amount...that is on them.

The whole context is based on deceit - tricks of trade to manipulate time and commitments to each job to milk 2-4X the salary.

Tell them you have a kid (when you don’t) to use as “kid errand”’excuse when multiple jobs conflict.

The whole premise is fraudulent and pathetic.

I get the vibe that a small minority of people on this site really hate the fact that people have the ability to work from home. Add the fact that the person he's talking about is hustling 2-3 remote jobs, it made the veins pop out in his forehead.

I WFH. Have so since 2010, before it was cool. Love it. No issue w/WFH.

Over employed context is about deceit and how to manipulate your employers to bilk the salaries. Lying about having children to create excuses to mitigate risk of inevitable jobs conflicts (meetings, project deadlines, etc).

I don't think anyone disagrees with you on this particular point.

You’re missing my point, there are instances where it is illegal (IE billing a client for time not worked), but in general it is not “illegal”. Can you be fired for it? Absolutely, but that doesn’t mean it’s illegal.

Whole thing is about hiding and lying to not be found out to get max salaries and benefits while cheating time from the other jobs.

I’m all for hustle and hard work. Deceit, not so much.

It's not. It's a charade they pull expecting to eventually get fired and move on to the next. They know there is some lag time and they can "hide" for a few months.

It's ok to admit you're jealous of them, I know I am.
