Giraffes are on the endangered list because of hunting and this chick’s response was that the hunt was a conservation effort

I've hunted all my life and have no desire to hunt these exotic animals, but typically these types of hunts cost a pretty penny, and the money goes into conservation efforts. Otherwise they have very little money for such efforts.

There's a very good argument that it's kind of a necessary "evil" per se.

I'm a hunter. I just don't get why you'd kill something you aren't going to eat.

It may have fed an impoverished village.

Which is exactly my point. If you know there has been previous outrage for something similar in the past, she is a buffoon for doing the same thing and especially for posting pics on social media.

I honestly don't think a woman from Kentucky gives a shite about actors in LA.

The North American Hunting/Conservation has been the most successful conservation effort in history. The species will thrive when the animal has a monetary value. The money spent by the hunters goes directly to protecting the species.

If there are no giraffes, then there is no one paying hundreds of thousands of dollars to hunt them. If they aren't allowed to hunt them then there is no one out there protecting them. That is when poachers step in and kill them to sell in the Asian trade markets.

Either way someone is killing them, it's just going to be hunters that pay way too much money which causes the natives to work to protect them to ensure they have a population to hunt or it's poachers paying nothing

Right, I just don't get why someone would want to pay top dollar to go over there and have a guide drive you out to the giraffe and say, "hey, shoot that one over there."

Now I would want to make sure the meat/bones were put to good use and it isn't just a sporting kill.

They typically give the meat/hide to local villages. I wish these people who are outraged would do some more research as to why hunts like these take place. People aren't going out and killing giraffes everyday for the hell of it.

“The giraffe I hunted was the South African sub-species of giraffe. The numbers of this sub-species is actually increasing due, in part, to hunters and conservation efforts paid for in large part by big game hunting. The breed is not rare in any way other than it was very old. Giraffes get darker with age,” said Talley, in an email to Fox News. She points out that the giraffe she killed was 18, too old to breed, and had killed three younger bulls who were able to breed, causing the herd’s population to decrease. Now, with the older giraffe dead, the younger bulls are able to continue to breed and can increase the population. “This is called conservation through game management,” says Talley, who insists hers was not a “canned” hunt.

“The giraffe in the photo is of the South African species Giraffa giraffe, which are not rare – they are increasing in the wild,” Julian Fennessy, Ph.D., co-founder of the Giraffe Conservation Foundation told Yahoo Lifestyle. “Legal hunting of giraffe is not a reason for their decline, despite the moral and ethical side of it which is a different story.”

Yeah I get that.

Seems to be some disagreement on the threat to giraffes too

Like this guy should know better

quote:

The genus currently consists of one species, Giraffa camelopardalis, the type species. Seven other species are extinct, prehistoric species known from fossils.

He founded the giraffe conservation foundation but doesn’t know shite about giraffes. There’s only one species.

She should have her gun owning privileges taken from her here in the U.S. She has shown she is not responsible with a firearm. Next thing you know she’ll be shooting up a school.
