Ottawa businessman burned $1M cash to keep it from ex-wife

Bruce McConville would rather burn his own money than give it to his ex-wife, and a disbelieving Superior Court judge is giving him 30 days in jail to rethink his claim.
The 55-year-old Ottawa businessman and failed mayoral candidate sold properties and businesses behind her back, then withdrew the $1 million and, he claims, burned the money in two bonfires: $743,000 last Sept. 23, and $296,000 on Dec. 15.

There was a similar case in Monroe. Judge did not believe the guy either.

And had a horrific boating accident where he lost all his guns too.
It’s truly tragic.

$2,000 per day to the ex-wife until he fully divulges all of his assets to the court.
That is after the 30 days in jail.
if she hasn't done so already, his ex-wife would be very smart to hire a forensic accountant yesterday.

That’s the crazy thing about straight cash. Once it’s gone, it’s really gone.

Yep, and they can't just keep him in jail forever.

That whore deserves nothing. Get a job and make your own money

He could have given it to me and accomplished the same purpose.

Isn't destroying money a crime? Also, won't the courts just say, ok, then she gets half of your remaining assets?
Congrats baw, you played yourself.

He really should have donated it to a cause which she doesn't support.
For example, let's say she hates guns. Donate $ 1 M to the NRA

Guy claims to have burned $1m in cash and it's the woman who is the bitch in the situation? His actions show he is clearly the crazy one in the (former) relationship.

Not true. Women can do some stuff to set you over the edge.

She will get half and then he will still owe him for her half of the million he burned.

Nah, he knows he can eventually make it back. He knows she can’t.

Unless you have personal experience in a divorce that was not amicable, your opinion does not matter.
In my experience, you haven't met a woman until you meet her in court.
During my divorce, which took several years to become official, I took an all or nothing approach, and paid more, but you can not put a price on happiness and peace of mind
