If both sides had equivalent resources and population, the South would have won it in under 2 years.
If the South had gone for the kill (as in invade the North and take Washington) on the several occasions they had routed the northern army during the 1st two years they would have won! (ex. 1st Bull Run..)

The south wasn’t out to conquer the north.

They did wage a war to keep the south as slaves. The north knew they couldn't lose that tax money from us

What Grant and Sherman did was wholesale slaughter of innocents.
Grant really did not make war on the entire population. He laid seige to Vicksburg, but that was because Pemberton resisted for far too long and thought help was coming from Walker. In reality Pemberton after having his arse handed to him at Port Gibson and then Raymond and then again at Champion Hill, he should have surrendered. He had at most 18,000 men with Grant having 35,000 with more on the way and control of the Mississippi.
Southern Historians like to make a monster out of WTS because of what happened on his March to the Sea, but in reality, Sherman did not have time to mess with the population for he was moving way too fast, the biggest things they did was "requisition" supplies from the surrounding area and destroy infrastructure, mainly, rail lines.
Look, it was Civil War and they are seldom pretty affairs

The north should have forced the south to ship all the slaves home.

Acting like that was the first time that had ever happened is what I am laughing at.
It wasn't even the first time it happened on American soil.
But I guess you think the slaughter of the Native Americans doesn't count?
Never mind that those sympathetic to the Confederacy did the same shite to Unionists. Where do you think the hate between Kansas and Missouri came from?

And the confederate were far worse about doing that to their own people.

Grant was no to be very magnanimous. It wasn't a nontraditional gesture for him at all. He was known to let surrendered officers keep their swords and sidearms.

probably saying to Lee, "I don't give a shite about your sword, give me all of your whiskey bitch!"
He didn't drink during campaigns when he was in the field.
What most people think they know about Grant's drinking habits is mostly bullshite.

Not really. That's just mostly myth, but one that Southerners are partial to.

You know someone doesn't have a clue what they're talking about when they post bullshite like that right there.
Grant was far from a silver spoon, and a better general than Lee. His Vicksburg campaign was the best of the war.

Maybe he meant to put that after Lee: the aristocratic elitest who they put on a pedestal right up there with Jesus in the south.
Southerners have The Father, the Son, and General Lee.
