When I was a kid, I always wondered why, if Jesus could do miracles, why didn't he turn the people who tried to kill him into camels or some shite.

Observing Good Friday while knowing it was really Wednesday.

I view it like Christmas. It is an observed day of adoration, not actual.

Which means I get to reflect, observe and marvel twice per event.

God is Good.

He must have been the best nut of the bunch bc 2,000+ years later, people still worship that nut and you spending time on a message board discuss that nut.

I’ve forgotten most of my Catholic upbringing, but isn’t today a big Stations Of the Cross day?

He didn't need a miracle. He could've confronted Judas instead of comforting him. He could've fled Jerusalem. He could've won Roman protection against the Jews.

Jesus only needed to act as a man to escape death, confusing his disciples more than it confused you as a child.

I don't know, I guess He never thought of that, Wheels. What a brilliant idea, one that I'm sure He wishes He'd have come up with now.

Are you really this dense? Jesus came for one purpose, substitutionary atonement. That purpose can’t be accomplished without sacrifice.

Actually it was closer to 1992 years ago

I submit 1989 years ago is most closely accurate.

Please add this third year to the thread title.

I guess I believe in it but that show sucked. And I just thought Jesus was something parents used to scare their kids into eating their vegetables. Wow.

Today is a veneration day.

BTW, Holy Thursday Mass is the best.

What will blow your mind when you really take to studying it, Jesus orchestrated the whole thing. He pushed it to happen.

It wasn’t a tragedy, it’s the greatest human accomplishment of all time.

That boggles my mind. God entering his creation, becoming just like me and setting events in motion to fulfill a plan taking his own life in such a manner.

Why?

God is Good.

Answer this honestly: Would the world be a better or worse place if more people attempted to live life according to the lessons taught by Jesus?

I understand doubting the story. It sounds like science fiction. That’s where the faith part comes into play. It’s a choice. I choose to worship Him rather than worshiping myself, some possession, or some celebrity. Maybe give it a try.

God in the Lord Jesus Christ was on the crucifix and questioning his own divinity. He sacrificed himself as one of us to save us all. Great post Meauxjeaux.

Prayers to all of the innocent children who were subjected to systemic and widespread sexual abuse by the Catholic Church, enabled and covered up by the very people who are supposed to embody the message of Jesus.

Sort of depends on how you count years? Is it one rotation around the sun or lunar cycles in a Roman or Gregorian year. Given the overestimated year for 15 centuries this level precision to the day is tough to have confidence in (I’m kidding around to be clear). I prefer to think of it as the day that churches mark the occasion but perhaps most noteworthy is that it is an area where all Christian’s agree, so offers hope for unity beyond calendars one day. May I wish you and yours an early Happy Easter.
