know some people think its a cult but this 41 year old thinks that cross fit is far and away the very best workout you can get and will serve you well until the day you die. Standard weight training philosophy as promoted throughout the last 40 years was designed by people like Arnold who were consuming massive amounts of steroids. The body was not designed to exercise while seated or lying down and isolation exercises are completely counter intuitive to the human anatomy.

this is why people can't take crossfitters seriously.

No, you said "crush" the squat as in to exceed the weight standards by a large margin. It is not my goal to "crush" any one exercise and if I am doing so it probably represents an imbalance somewhere in my training.

quick, post an acronym like FRAN to show how much you know!

I'm sure lots of bodybuilders will be "crushing" crossfit games since there is so much more money in it vs bodybuilding...and that they are superior athletes.

Thanks. I really like going to the gym. I just feel like I need to switch things up so I don't get bored.

I weigh 154 and up to this point, I haven't had any problems doing the weight except for one week of overhead press. I hit a wall with that one.

This turned into a crossfit hate thread. Awesome.

if you are still seeing movement with a linear program, keep doing it. When you hit walls at say squat, and deadlift...then it's time for a change.

Crossfit is huge. What people aren't taking it seriously? Steroid dealers?

Ditto. Military press is by far my weakest lift.

Edit to add: I've seen pretty consistent gains on a (severely) modified 5x5, but I do a lot of other extra stuff. Doing a fair amount of body weight stuff has helped.

True strength and conditioning coaches. Ever noticed how all of your top performers at the crossfit games don't actually crossfit for their training? And I used to crossfit at a pretty good level; I had a sub 5 minute Fran at one point.

You really are a meathead. You said I couldn't even squat 2x which obviously is a standard of yours. Have the anabolics fricked with yours?

There is a ton of money in cross fit now with endorsements and cross fit games ect. Where are all the bodybuilders jumping in to take it from those pussy arse cross fitters?

You said exceed weight standards.

so 2x would be exceeding a standard...what standards are you talking about?

look, I know you're really jazzed about your "box". Soon enough you'll lose some interest, and then a month or three later will have stopped going altogether. Then you'll jump on some different fad and be SUPER PUMPED that ITS THE BESTEST EVAH!

Meanwhile, there are legions of lifters who wake up before the sun is up, strap on some headphones and push some iron...all before your alarm goes off.

Ditto again.

Agreed, keep on linear progression.

Personally, I've always preferred a 3x5 program. I have dealt with intensity better than volume.

Started with Starting Strength, then Texas Method, now Power Athlete (Field Strong). PA is an awesome program but you have to subscribe.

I'm sure if you have means to hire a strength and conditioning coach they can do a better job for you and if you are an elite athlete like a top cross fit person is then they might benefit from advanced training. For the average guy wanting to exercise 4-5 nights a week and $120 per month and stay in all around great shape there is nothing better.

I do well with a mix of both, but intensity days are my favorite. I get all fired up for them!

There is a lot better. Not that I'm particularly knocking crossfit. I liked crossfit when I was doing it, and it has introduced people to movements and lifts they probably would never had been exposed to otherwise. But you xfit zealots really do annoy the shite out of the rest of us. This posturing, the sense of eliteness... its annoying and funny at the same time.

He can do it cheaper, easier, and with less chance of injury....by NOT doing crossfit.

95% of the people at the gym are looking to build they beach muscles. Sorry of thats not you but that is the facts. Vanity has driven the gym industry since its inception. Maybe thats not you but it is for most people. I still don't understand your hostility though. Seems unreasonable.

so what?

thats what they want...and if thats what they want there are WAY better methods than crossfit to do it.
