I would also like to branch out to more than just the workouts that are specified in Stronglifts.
how much are you currently lifting?

I don't like deadlift for one.

Read Power to the People. It's the best deadlift instructions I've seen.

I know some people think its a cult but this 41 year old thinks that cross fit is far and away the very best workout you can get and will serve you well until the day you die. Standard weight training philosophy as promoted throughout the last 40 years was designed by people like Arnold who were consuming massive amounts of steroids. The body was not designed to exercise while seated or lying down and isolation exercises are completely counter intuitive to the human anatomy.
good god.....
seriously.

FWIW, linear progression (like in Stronglifts) is for beginners. You should be exhausting gains by this point.
I'd recommend the Texas Method out of Rippetoe's camp.

Joe Weider
Joe Weider and Arnold did more to shape the landscape of weight training in the last 50 years than anyone in this country/world and it is not debatable. He used steroid freaks in order to sell magazines and supplements. The training regimes developed were for bodybuilders taking anabolic steroids who cared about getting huge. Overall fitness and functional strength were of no concern. What part of all this is untrue?

Then don't do it.
Deadlift is one of if not the best exercise you can do but people on this site act like you can not build a decent physique without it. If it is bothering your back you need to work on your form or like I said just don't do it.

you are really good at parroting what youve heard at "the box".
stop now before you embarrass yourself further.

what point?
How long has he been lifting?
How much is he lifting?
Those will answer whether a linear program is still appropriate or not

People at my "box" don't really care what occurs at your typical gym and to be perfectly honest Ive never heard anyone saying anything negative about other fitness routines.
You are obviously bitter. Why don't you talk about it?

Im not bitter. I find uneducated tools like you that are hyped about your new "box" experience to be insufferable. People have been training for a LONG time and your comments about other training methods are so wrong, it's absurd.

He said Stronglifts for 5 months. I'd assume he's reset a couple of times, but maybe he's superman.

How much is he lifting compared to bodyweight...
thats more important.

You are mad that you've been doing it wrong for a really long time. I get why you'd be pissed. Good luck with your bicep curls and tricep kickbacks. Keep doing those seated shoulder presses, I'm sure they will come in handy when you are trying to move something to the top shelf but cat be bothered to get out of your chair.
Vanity, steroids and supplements are the only reason you believe what you are doing is correct. Meathead.

you literally are a caricature of a boxtard.
it's sad really. Enjoy your upcoming shoulder surgery.

I've been doing 5x5 stronglifts for 4-5 months, but I've plateaued so I started doing about 60-70% for the first two sets, then 80-85% for the remaining 3 sets. Also, I'm mixing in other exercises on the side to keep improving. So far I like my workouts, but I do have the urge to switch to a different workout for a couple months just so I don't get complacent.

What if I just pick you up and toss you up against a wall? Can you cross fit your way out of that?
