Or a testament of how small your biceps are.

Low bar back squat > front squat > high bar back squat

surprised no one has mentioned the pop-a-squat

Probably cause he has toothpicks for legs and can only rack 135.

Doing heavy DB split squats (back foot elevated on a bench) with a 1-second hold at the bottom is still the one thing that makes me feel like my quads have been pulverized the following day.
I just don't get this if you aren't training for athletics. Personally, I see plenty of "gains" using the four basic lifts. Doing stuff like that just looks like a great way to hurt yourself.

Lol, what?
Most people do these (outside of those doing them in a supplemental way to blast the quads) because they remove alot of the strain on our back.
They're MUCH safer than normal bar squats.

Sure, there's a place for the front squat in everyone's program.
But most people have underdeveloped posterior chains and would benefit from focusing LESS on their quads.
It would work fine as long as they were also RDL'ing their asses off.
While I agree with most of your assessment and upvoted your post, most people also severely lack good posture and can't even do a proper front squat without falling on their face, due to any number of muscle imbalances and deficiencies.
The Front squat is a great way to strengthen your midsection and develop better form for any type of squat. The people who hate front squats hate them because they can't get into proper position due to lack of mobility and whatever other muscle imbalances. I think it's a must to front squat regularly.
But yes, people tend to be quad dominant and need to do a shitload more deadlifts and whatnot regularly also.
But let's be real, most average Joe's in the gym won't do either.

disagree.
your hips are in an odd position with one of your extremities being propped up on something else.
significantly higher chance for injury.
I wont even do them.

It's a greater test of wrist and elbow flexibility and upper back/shoulder girdle muscles than it is actual leg strength.
The limiting factor of a front squat is seldom muscular fatigue or weakness in the quads, hamstrings, or glutes.

Too each their own. The only reason I use to Smith machine is for the bar while I am doing split squats. I am 6'3" so the bench isn't quite high enough for me. So I use the Smith Machine.
Squats
One Legged Press
Calf raises
Split Squats
Deadlifts

What about overhead squat?
Great lift, but I'd be surprised if more than 5% of your average gym has the mobility and core strength to safely execute this.
Truth
This lift makes you squat properly and is great for hip flexibility and core strength
I use overhead squats (with just a bar) to warm up for back and front squats.

I agree with this...as long as the trainee leaves his/her ego at the door. If you can only keep form at 65lbs, well, then, that's your weight.

I do back squat, lunges, leg press, single leg machine extensions, leg curls and calf raises on leg days. Sometimes I feel I should be doing more, legs are no longer as burnt as they used to be after this routine. What do you guys recommend? I know I need to get on the front squats

Rear foot elevated split squats should get them sore again.
