I would just pocket the 500-1500 dollars and put it toward a high end watch. That price range is no man’s land in the watch world.

It’s kind of funny, I used to want a Dufour but I tried one recently and I did not feel the way that I thought I would feel. I have a KV on the way, and that felt more impressive to me when I visited. Not to say that Dufour is not amazing, but I don’t know, I didn’t feel the way I thought I would.
Personally, if I could get one, I’m taking an RRCCII.
My ex-FIL has a Duality and I lust after it to this day.
The Chronometre Contemporain is an amazing watch. Funny in the contest of this thread within a thread how many people would pick it for a cheap watch. An odd name they have never heard of and with the deadbeat seconds it would appear like a quartz movement.

I'd get a G-steel for a sub $1k short-notice keeper

Maybe save up a little more and get a Tudor Black Bay?

then why do you feel you need to start wearing one now?

These are fairly easy to find in used great condition in your budget.

Wow. It is crazy to think of a relative owning a watch like that. I only spent some time with it in an auction preview, so admittedly, it was not the greatest experience.
Photos, I agree. But in your hand, I think anyone would assume the RRCCII is special. In my experience, many of the watches that I have handled from the indies have had a special, tactile feel.

Get the watch you like. Don't worry about what other people will think, most of them won't give a shite.
This, of the people that notice about half would be just as impressed with a $19.99 knockoff, buy whatever you like.

In that price range I’d look at Hamilton, Tissot, Longines, Squale based on personal experience. If you’re looking for a good all around watch Id recommend the Longines Hydroconquest

I love my Tag Formula 1. It was $1500 and is my daily wear
I just picked up a Tag Formula1 Red Bull Racing edition and am in love with it. It's a little busy, but it's my first high end watch other than a few Bulovas

I’m all over the board, might grab this one locally, what’s everyone think?

I'm not personally big on Roman numerals and the rivets? on the bezel are kinda weird. That being said, it's an opinion and you know the saying.

I wouldn't do it, no matter what the price was. If it was a diver or field watch I could overlook the Wabi Sabi (wear/character) but it isn't a diver or field watch. It is a watch someone has just used for daily wear, probably for quite a while.
Take a breath and don't go all in, remember you haven't been wearing watches, hell you may not even like it. Although I think you will.
You can find plenty of inexpensive brands lightly used with box and papers on places like the WatchUSeek for sale area. There are a lot of flippers that wear something a few times and sell it on. You can also spend some time on the WUS affordable watch forum those guys can really squeeze a buck and it will introduce you to the micro-brand market which has some great value and interesting watches.
I love it when people discover watches but take some time and get a little perspective and focus before you make your next purchase and I guarantee it will save you money and heartache in the future.

Great help... I'm thinking for this purchase it's kind of a like your first car with your first decent job... just something respectable to get you around and feel comfortable pulling up to customers offices, etc.
I'll be in the market later this year for something I'd really like and can spend some money on it then.

This better? Looks like a WAB 1110

So I ended up punting on the quick purchase. Finally pulled the trigger on this piece second hand.
Thanks everyone for the advice. I’m just excited to get started on a watch collection journey and happy to have a second choice to wear other than a $50 Stauer.

Nomos is a solid buy in that price point. I’ve always liked Nomos, although they aren’t the type of watch I’d ever wear. Is that weird? It’s kinda like saying, “I really like that car, but I’d never drive it”. I don’t necessarily find myself doing that with any other object, other than watches. There are tons of watches that I think look really awesome, but they just aren’t for me (I have a small wrist and prefer a bracelet over a strap). Anyway, enough WIS talk
