I'm tracking all that. I need to figure out what happens when you get medically retired after 20 as opposed to a longevity retirement.

You get both in that scenario. Over 20 years and over 50% and you qualify. Your retirement will be taxable and the disability is nontaxable. The disability goes up slightly if you have dependents.

Threads like this are shameful.

No surprise to see Air Force leading the discussion.

Get out. Be thankful you did not get killed or maimed...and get a civilian job.

Don't leech.

First of all, I was not in the Air Force. I was a 19K tank commander. Secondly, you don't know me or I assume the OP. The only thing shameful here is your POS act.

Keep tellin' yourself it's okay.

Shameful what has happened to our military and the absolute sense of entitlement.

And, you are right. I do not know you or anyone in this thread.

But I know what I've seen.

The system is regularly worked by people.

"PTSD" is one prime example.

Well presumably you were in the Navy where no one ever sees actual combat unless they're spec ops and the only ptsd you have to worry about is from the time you accidentally fricked a Thai ladyboy. So what the frick do you know?

1 year BOG IA all over Iraq seeing just how fricked up the Army is....but yeah...I'm sure y'all are all Rambo types with big time combat injuries.

None of y'all will acknowledge that many Vets leech off the system for bullshite "disabilities"?

C'mon now. What's legit is legit. But a whole lot of fraud going on.

Don't back track now. You came into the thread acting like a dick, making a bunch of assumptions about people you don't know.

Like I said...if it is legit, it is legit.

I have family members getting money for what I consider to be BS...and it sickens me as other Vets who lost limbs or worse do without.

We all know how the VA works.

And this is rich coming from the branch that has 140 million square miles to roam and still manages to T-bone another ship every month.

Touché.

Hard to dispute that.

But it didn't happen on my watch.

We have all had to watch performance and accountability degrade.

Every service has its issues.

Have a good friend that went through something similar... I can put you in touch with him if you want to. Also they have a group on Facebook called veteran 2 veteran info that has a bunch of useful information and people that can help you out...

So you're cool with the DoD pushing out a 19 year vet that isn't a willing participant in the MEB?

Having all of those Navy dicks in your face must have really jaded you.

Show me one vet in a situation like that, that isn't getting paid by the VA

Just get to 20 and you'll be fine. Then go for VA disability.

If you want to meet veterans in your situation, you should join your local VFW, DAV and Am. Legion. They have service officers who help veterans just like you.
