I'm trying to figure out how concurrent receipt works in that situation.

I'm about to hit 19 years in. I'm an E-8 going through an medical board. I'm pretty sure that they're going to kick me out and I'm trying to figure out if it's worth fighting.

Thanks.

I'd be fighting like hell to get to 20. Are you asking if you can draw both?

I currently am... Just not sure if I gain anything by making it to 20.

Hence the reason I'm asking about this particular situation.

I know I can draw both with a regular retirement. I need to know EXACTLY how a medical retirement at 20 years works vs less than 20 years vs a regular retirement.

My first cousin did this. 22 years active, then retired. Later went disabled, service related. Draws two checks, boy is doing well.

Moral of the story:. Fight like hell to make it to 20. Good luck brother.
Btw, I am retired USAF....

It's worth fighting. I'm a retired E-8 and I am 90% VA disabled. You get both if you serve over 20 years and are over 50%.

Trust me...fight it.

I'm assuming that you had a normal retirement?

I'm trying to find out how a disability retirement over 20 years works.

Thanks.

I was in for 21 years. If you don't do 20 years, you don't qualify for CRDP (concurrent retirement disability pay).

If you get medically retired, basically you lose your retirement because the only way you can receive both is through CRDP which requires 20 years and over 50%.

Fight it with everything you can. What you're going through happened to my buddy at 18 years in. He got medically retired and he gets 100% disability but no retirement pay.
