Just get a degree in education from some online college then do all the local testing after?

Teaching is one of the hardest jobs in the world. It’s up there with mommy and nursing!

do you already have a college degree? If so there are alternative certifications.

First you have to be mentally prepared to figure out how you'll handle the backlash when you inevitably bang one of your students.

Being an educator is a passion and a calling. Teaching isn't just an easy job with weekends off. Don't do it unless you have a calling or you'll be quitting by the end of September.

If you have a bachelor's do an online alt certification
program like iteachLouisiana. You take 6-10 classes online then instead of regular student teaching, you get to teach and get paid with occassional observations.
You have to take the Praxis II exam in whatever subject/grade levels you want to teach.

I haven’t read replies so sorry if German:

If you already have a college degree then just go to a alternative certification program such as iTeach or LRCE. I went to LRCE and it cost me around $3000 at the time. It was one summer of going every day and then a year of going one Saturday a month. But during that year you were able to start teaching.

You also have to pass Praxis exams in the content area or grade level you wish to teach. I am certified as a 6-12 Special Education teacher so I had to pass Praxis exams in Sped, teaching Reading, High School History (the content area I chose) and the Praxis II. I’m pretty sure but I could be wrong. My SAT scores got me out of taking the first Praxis test, most people don’t have to take that one. I’m also certified elementary but that was my first route and I learned quickly it wasn’t for me and did the add ons.

May I ask how old you are? I don’t suggest switching to teaching after a certain age. Unless you have tons of savings or work just because and don’t need the money. You will have to work very very late in life to really get enough money from your pension.

LRCE. I quit my job in May, hired as a teacher in June. Started officially in August.

Don’t do it unless it’s a dream or passion. To those making fun, they wouldn’t last a day. Substitutes have left me notes that they left crying, don’t know how I do it everyday.

Sure if you want to teach Jamal in the city or Ricky Bobby in the country.

Gotta do your student teaching and get certified.

I’m married to one. Not only does the pay suck, but the kids are terrible and the parents are shitty. It sucks when you try to help a struggling kid so you call their parents and the parents basically tell you they don’t care.

There are great schools with bright kids and involved parents, but those are tough to get a spot at.

If it’s a true calling go for it, but you better be sure.

1) Don’t do it
2) Seriously, don’t do it.
3) See #’s 1&2
4) Since you didn’t listen, contact teach for America. They will get you started. ITeach is a certification program that’s cheap and easy.

Before the free week off for Thanksgiving and 3 weeks for Christmas?
What about the free 2 months off during the summer?
Some....... most people work all year.
Those that can do......
