The last few times I have been to the ER the wait we experienced was for admit. Waiting for a bed to open up. The triage, exam, testing seem to be relatively quick, but I am usually with my elderly parents and they are pretty ill when we go.

Because it’s clogged up with 95% admits that aren’t emergent.

My ER record for waiting before being called back is 13 hours. This was at University in Augusta GA.

I live in Alabama and had to go to the ER during the Texas/Bama game last fall. In and out in 45 minutes. It’s all about timing.

Does that include the time spent with the business office? They’re more concerned with payments than treatment.

Been years since I’ve had to go to the emergency room for my son, but I think it went pretty quick.

Considering we were there because his tongue was almost cut in half on an instrument of death known as a trampoline and we were there maybe an hour, I’d say it was pretty quick.

Earth, did she have a viral or bacterial infection? I ask because one of my adult sons ran a high fever, went to a doc in the box, and left with an antibiotic prescription and a diagnosis of pharyngitis. The high temp thing seems to have recently happened to several people I know. Hope she does well.

Not sure yet. They’re doing more testing on the blood they drew. He vitals were good enough to send her home so we’ll see. I just got her home and tucked into bed. I’m wondering if she picked up some sort of bug in Mexico? We stayed at Unico 20 89 Resort last week. But I’m perfectly fine.
My wife has had this fever crap for 4 days now. She started running fever around 100 Saturday morning and it ran between 99.5-101 until she went to the doctor Monday morning. She tested negative for Covid, strep and flu. Bloodwork showed normal white blood cell count and urinalysis was normal. No cough, congestion or sore throat.

Doc said it’s some kind of fever virus that has to run its course and stay well hydrated and get rest.

Is it free for them? They aren’t billed at all?

Hospitals that have a Disproportionate Share of low income and uninsured patients get partially paid from the feds. They bill the folks too, but with fake addresses, high mobility, cash existence, etc. rarely get paid that way.

Yup. They need a separate area for frequent fliers, welfare users as primary, etc. Let them wait all day. I know someone who waited hours behind these types and who was really sick.

Another friend was injured badly so had to go. When he finally got called up, they asked for copay or something. He told them I haven’t heard you ask a single one of these here for payment so I’m not giving you a dime. He didn’t.

I'm an ER nurse and can say the the ER is extremely abused by people who just treat it as a free clinic. Probably only 10-15 percent of patients are actually sick and need to go to ER. This backs it up and gets the ER bogged down by having to run different tests on everyone. It's sad but that's the way the common folk treat it now a days.

I cut one of my fingers and hit a blood vessel. shite was bleeding big time. Wrapped it and went to the emergency room that was touting 30 minute wait time. Checked in and sat in a room full of sick people. After 45 minutes walked out and told my wife we can fix this ourselves. Stopped at Walmarks and picked up 20.00 dollars worth of guazes, tape and the like. Got home and took off the bandage and blood spewed 5' in the air. My wife said you need to go to the hosptial. We drove 30 minutes to the next closest hospital and in an hour I was out with 10 stitches. Shop around
