They are probably right. That ER never seems to have a "down" time. Thankfully I've never been a patient (outside of the terminally bloody nose story mentioned earlier), but I've gone there several times to see relatives and it's always full, even when you wouldn't expect it to be.
My mom fainted at work once for no apparent reason and they sent her to OLOL ER. It was around 11am on a Tuesday. You'd figure that to be a slow time in the ER right? frick NO. They got her into a bed ok, but she and about 5 other patients' beds were actually out in the hallway waiting for a room. After about 2 hours, she finally got one. At least she was having tests run and such while in the hallway, but we were still dumbfounded by how busy it was.

Main reason is the ER is where all the no pays show up. Those in bad shape get admitted and cost the hospital tons of money. So no hospital is going to throw money at an ER to make it faster. Those needing care will get it. - just not as quickly as they would like. This is why the stand alone ERs pop up. They are out of network, can charge what they want and can opt not to take the uninsured.

One thing I noticed was that all of the ER admissions folks were standing up using WOWs instead of desks and desktop PCs and/or VDIs.
