OT Mechanics: Adding more oil than recommended

Had an oil change this morning. Normally do it myself, but I dont have access to a garage with tools with my move yet, so I took my car to a dealer service and parts center.
They added slightly less than 5 full qts, rather than the 4.5 give or take a little that I usually add.
I've never added more oil than the recommended 4.5. Should I be a little worried?

Check the dipstick and see where it is at. Assuming it has a dipstick.

What kind of car and you know that the oil filter will chew up a chunk of oil also right?

Its slightly above the full mark. Generally, I've been told adding more oil than required isn't a good thing.

Well, you sound concerned. So the only answer is to return the car to get the proper service.
Half a quart likely won't hurt, but it won't cost you anything to quell your fears.
Make sure your engine was cool when checking that oil level. It will vary the level.

You'll be ok. As long as it's just a little bit over. I run mine a little under the recommended amount for peace of mind.

I always added more when I had my silverado. Of course it was an 88 and v8 350 engine.
These days with all the plastic and computer crap I'm just not touching my new car for maintenance.

if you overfill you run the risk of the crankshaft churning the oil and making bubles and such which mess with the crankshaft and the oil pressure.
You never want to over fill. It's better to be a little under than to be over.

Lot of engines these days have windage trays and oil sump baffles from the factory. Much harder to whip air into the oil from a little overfill than it used to be. Oils themselves are more resistant to aeration too.

I had an old ford truck that blew so much I damn near overflowed it just do it would last a little longer.
