what the hell is the point of me dishing out $100/month for 12 years,

you do realize that $100 a month is cheap right? especially if you only have one auto. what coverages do you carry?

also, you do realize if thats all you have with them you only paid in 14,000 in premium? id assume they lost money on the situation if thats the only thing you have with them.

Chances are SF won't pay him anything for rental after he's settled, even if it is with his own company. I'd bet $1 on it.

Well, they might not call it "rental". But you can add up the cost and throw it into the B/I settlement, which is normally how that works.

Right, I mean why not ask for an extra $300 in BI, just a coincidence it happens to be what he paid out of pocket for rental.

I mean they ain't paying that under PD.

You are very wise CaptainsWafer. And correct, it won't be paid out of PD.

And the dude doesn't have to buy a new car. He should be able to take the total settlement and buy a used car of same quality.

Not minus the 20% salvage, unfortunately. Sounds like he has a combo of not knowing much about how this process works paired with a lack of help from his adjuster and agent.

It's not his fault he's not well versed as I assume he (hopefully) doesn't do this very often.

I think he's upset that his car was totaled and the fact that his rental was ended. I'm not sure about the $3000 less part tho.

I'm dope on the floor and I'm magic on the mic
Now why would I ever stop doing this
With others makin' records that just don't hit
I toured around the world from London to the bank
It's Hammer go Hammer
It's a Hammer yo Hammer and the rest go and play

FB offered me almost $20k (not including value of my car) because I was sent to ER. I didn't sue and they let me have a rental for as long as it took to find a new car. My insurance guy wasn't a dick but I was cut out of the car by firemen so....

My sister used to buy a new car and within 6 months someone would rearend her every damn time. Would always be bad but not enough to total the car and she would be pissed. She had a new car now she has a wrecked car and it was not her fault.

I will give you the same advice I gave her. Go to the doctor or Chiropractor and make sure you are ok. You can probably get the other 20% and buy a damn new car.

You need a good lawyer. Go immediately to the docs office and get a paper trail started with bodily injury.

Well, they offered me $7,700 for the vehicle, which was at the value. However, I cannot fathom buying new when I paid this car off 18 months early and is in such good shape. It's bullshite.

You don't have to buy new to replace the original vehicle. To make you whole, the insurer shouldn't promise you a dime more than what a similar used vehicle would cost in a private sale. This is considerably lower than a similar used vehicle at a dealer, since the dealer has skin in the game.

Insurance policies that will pay for buying a new replacement do exist, but the premiums are much higher and for good reason.

Yep, but it could be he has already said he wasnt hurt and if on phone, it was recorded. BUT, then again, some injuries show up afterwards. So bottom line, I dont know.

Once the carrier settles with you for the property damage, as a total loss, they no longer owe to pay for your rental.
on a total loss, you only get a few days past receiving the check to find a new car before you have to turn in the rental car. Since you opted to keep the car for it's salvage value, I assume it would be the same time frame, though I have never personally dealt with that issue.

I decided to go this route when I saw the exact same car and near identical mileage was going for almost $2,500 more. Just too frustrating to accept.
You do realize your car now has a salvage title making worth a whole helluvalot less, right?

I've only read the first page so maybe this has already been said.......

Lesson #1) if you are dealing with insurance (regardless of the type of insurance), their 1st priority is to not pay.

Lesson #2) they are sensational at their job.

And with that salvaged title the insurance company will pay you even less on the next claim, I think it's 80% of the claim amount minus any deductible that may apply. However you will still pay the full premium knowing that insurance will only pay 80% of claim for salvaged vehicle. Ask your FB agent about that. Better yet ask the adjuster.
