I think I’d have to have Power of Attorney associated with this to go get it. I’m guessing and not really sure.

I am good at this stuff though. I’ll beat you with your own rule book all day long. I made the state police change their policy on how they administer the motor vehicle inspection program at a couple of stations on principle.

If I have the authority I think I can get this done. Timing will be an issue for me as well but I think I can make it work.

What shop in Columbus?

My wife is from there and her family still lives there.

ETA: My brother-in-law isn't a mechanic by trade but he fixes up old cars and trucks for auto shows as a hobby. He may know the owners of the shop and could help end this ridiculous situation.

Just saw this thread. 10 days in. Are you fricking kidding me? Why hasn't the OP hired an attorney, accompanied said attorney to the see the Sheriff, and then had said Sheriff follow everyone to go retrieve that bike, then have said attorney file suit for attorney's fees.

I decided I’ll go get it. Let’s figure out how to get in touch and we can work it out.

So they are knowingly in possession of stolen property? Sounds like a crime to me. Call the police.

I'd give them my credit card number, pick up the bike, then report the charge as fraudulent.

This sounds like a job for Hammertime. Can somebody send out the signal?

I can’t believe you can’t hire an attorney who can work with the cops to go pick up the bike and hold if for you until you get it. I can’t imagine that costing THAT much, especially within a bike worth $6-7k

Do you have any benefit at work that pays for an attorney consultation? (Lifeworks is one of them). With or without an attorney, I’d contact the Mississippi Attorney General.

That’s what I thought too. I called the Colombus PD handling the case and asked, if I show up with the police report and identification, would you require them to give me the bike and he basically said “idk.” Like how do you not know? You’re going to be the one making the decision?

At this point I would have just contacted the state police...

Why haven't you filed police complaint, I would have accused THEM of the theft day one.

Yea- even if not able to get there soon you can make them very uncomfortable in the meantime

So your solution is to commit fraud?

Sounds like these people did unauthorized work on a stolen motorcycle and are trying to strong arm you into paying them because they are trying to defraud you or avoid losing money on a vehicle they shouldn’t have done work on.

I’d call the attorney general.
