You will spend around $10,000 on one over their lifetime. But if you need to be talked out of it then you shouldn't own one to begin with.

You would get your throat sliced for saying such dumb shite in my house.

Why can't you have a kid and a dog? I pretty much always had a dog growing up. Because we were in the suburbs, and my mom was very attentive to a breeds space and exercise needs, we always had small dogs. We never had any problems.

You don't need a dog if you still need acceptance from an online message board.

Owning a dog is a commitment, but one well worth it. With the addition of a new Lab pup a few weeks ago we now have 3. Going to enjoy training the new one.

I have two dogs that we had for 3 years before we had our first kid. the last 4 years those dogs were mostly ignored. Not until recently have we been giving them more attention and the kids have been more involved with them.
It's great to have a dog AFTER you have kids and they are at least potty trained, and you can somewhat give them the attention they need.

I got my puppy when she was a little over a month old.
Don't do that, don't ever do that.

Our recent addition was 4 weeks when we got him; to our surprise he slept all night without crying or barking. Guess having two older labs around made him feel secure. I thank god daily for this.

I made this mistake, too. I now have a dog that's fine around people, but a little skiddish when around other dogs.

I work from home, so I was able to keep my apartment clean at the time. That being said, anytime I had to go anywhere, I basically had to run her through the gauntlet so she'd sleep and not cry.
She still has some issues relating to other dogs and standing up for herself, but she's also part Italian Greyhound so that could be the breed.

There is nothing like having a good ole dog, but just be aware of the responsibilities involved and only commit yourself if you are able to take responsibility.

get a dog if you plan to be a single hermit forver.
Not sure how having a dog makes you a hermit. I'm probably more active because I have an active energetic dog that I like to do things with. I actually sought out an active breed so it would give me incentive to get my arse off the couch. I take him hunting, hiking, fishing, camping, to the park and dog park. You could join a club with other singles who have dogs and like to do active things, and you may find some interesting people to meet. I lost about 30 pounds after I got a dog because of the amount of activity he needs. I say if you have the time and money then go for it. But just realize it is an every day commitment for at least 10 years, and hopefully longer.
