quote:
I talked a little bit about how costly and ineffective BSL is, but it bears repeating. Study after study has shown that banning Pit Bulls does not decrease dog bites, and in fact merely increases dog bites from non-Pit Bull breeds like Labradors and Boxers. This proves that whatever statistics you can find about Pit Bulls attacking people more often than other dogs are an example of correlation, not causation. All things being equal, Pit Bulls rate incredibly high in temperament tests. Higher, even, than Golden Retrievers and many other breeds.

Because no one wants them

They’re waiting to be incinerated
Kinda like being on death row

Because trash people get them thinking it will make them look cool. Then they dont want to put in the vast amount of time it take to train and care for an animal. Either that or it bites them or someone they love and off to the shelter they go.
I've had friends that tried pits and every last one of them said they're a bitch to try and train. I guess they have a reputation for being stubborn. And they have almost unlimited amounts of energy. Once they start growing big, all that energy has to be run out of them. If not they resort to chewing your house down.

I was coming here to say something very similar.

This would be a large reason why though

Again, it’s not that all pitbulls are mean all of the time, it’s that if they ever snap they can rip you apart. I’d rather have a dog that I have a chance against if it snaps.

Because their owners get picked up on their various arrest warrants and wind up in jail.

This cat was raised by pitbulls.

I only pray that most of those fatalities were the POS owners and not innocent victims

This blog exposes the flaws with the ATTS study and the myths about pitbulls. It’s labeled “junk science.”
quote:
The ATTS temperament test is scientifically invalid and unreliable. The test can not reliably predict how a dog will behave in the real world.

Because poor and trashy people get pit bulls thinking they’ll be cool. Then they decide they don’t want the dog anymore after some combination of being too lazy to train it, tired of cleaning up after it, too broke to afford vet bills and food, or its shown aggression/bit someone.
Then its off to the shelter, where most non-trashy people don’t want to adopt a pit bull because of the breed’s reputation. They don’t want to end up getting sued because a dog bit someone or worse, having it severely injure a family member. Easier to get breeds that aren’t frequently on the news for mauling children

Cocker Spaniels would be 11.8% on that temperament scale.

When I worked for a local government building & inspection department in college and over a year after college.. The parish started this clean up campaign and our department was responsible for finding owners of abandoned homes, property in which no one kept up..
In some cases there was evidence of dog fighting. We let the police know, they would then know where to target them. Bust it up. It usually ended up with Animal Control having to go to someone who was breeding these dogs for fighting purposes.
The guy from Animal Control told us at the time (this was 15 or so years ago) that the majority of dogs they got were pitbulls. It was the only breed people bred for illegal activity. All the other dogs were strays or someone dropping them off to them, but they had to euthanize most of the pitbull pups.. There were too many and the fact that they were bred to fight they were not dogs they wanted to put up for adoption.
