The average wedding cost $44,000 in 2018. That includes 14% toward the engagement ring. Subtracting that, it's still ~$38,000 for a wedding. The average guest list includes 167 people. 42% of all weddings are paid for entirely by the parents of the bride.

A coworker sent out an email this weekend wanting to sell her daughter's wedding dress. They paid $8000 for it new and are selling it for $5000. For a dress worn ONCE in a person's lifetime.

I'm starting to think I'm undercharging wedding ceremony music at $350/wedding.

When you pay for a musician, you want to get the one least likely to mess shite up. Well worth the investment.

It's barely even an hour (30 minutes of welcome music/15 minute ceremony). I like the money but honestly feel unethical when I ask for it. Thing is, no one ever says no.

Im not a dad. But if my future daughter thinks I am paying $40,000 for a wedding she is out of her doggone mind. If thats what she wants she better be prepared for her and fiance to come out of pocket majorly, as well as grooms parents as well possibly.

44k? You could literally buy land and throw a kick arse party with kegs for a fraction of the cost.

She can go to the court house, Vegas or have a small wedding at home. I'm not dropping that kind of coin.

That’s it?

That seems unfair.

That's why so many people getting married today are eloping and having a big party afterwards. That 40k is a house downpayment.

Hopefully this 40k average is being thrown off from a few outliers. A couple if million dollar f you money weddings can skew the average pretty easily.
