If they're going to drive while under the influence then they deserve to get their money stolen.

Some of them like taking people's shite when searching cars too. Had that happen once. I had a brand new carton of cigarettes that hadn't been opened. When I got back in my car, it had been opened and half the packs were missing.

Eh, maybe you and your friends should be forced to respond to a casualty DUI and then go notify the family then maybe you'd be less upset about your dog shite friends having enough money to get a taxi, instead of driving drunk, taken out of their wallet

You think that's bad, you should look up civil asset forfeiture.

They don't even need to charge you, much less convict you to steal everything (including your house) you own.

You can twist it any way you want it but it's still theft. And by the people who are supposed to be upholding the law.

and you're only "proof" is a drunk guy recalling an event 15 years ago.

Sounds completely reasonable.

Yeah you're right. No way a cop would ever steal money (or drugs) from a police station.

And it's not my only "proof." I know two former cops who said this happens on a regular basis. They never did it but didn't want to be black balled by calling them out.

How many people are included in "every single person i've known who had a DUI"? Did each of them get it in different parishes (counties)? I am not saying this never happens, it is easy to get away with it, but it isn't happening every time someone is arrested and hauled off to jail.

If it happened all the time, it would eventually become a story and that would be a negative reflection of the sheriff (elected official). Do you think police report the exact amount of cash they confiscate in a huge drug bust? In the movies it happens to the point it can make people think that it is a common practice, but it doesn't always happen.

All that money goes into the evidence room then evidently used by whatever police force seized it. It could really frick up an investigation if there is any sign that police took some of the "dirty money".

Some of the money might be given to the police who made the bust.. Sort of as a bonus.. After the fact, but for what you said happened to "every single person you know" is unlikely. If it happened to a few of those people then that isn't a surprise.. but you make "every single person" sound like 10-15 people.

Ok I'm only talking about 4-5 people...I don't know 10 people who have DUI's. Point is it happens and it's chicken shite.

One baw in particular had about 5 hundo on him when he got arrested in BR. It was completely gone when they gave him his things back.

I call bullshite. In 18 years of law enforcement I've never heard of this happening. In a world where people complain to IA for the simplest things, you would hear more about it.

I've had instances where arrestees that didn't have a pot to piss in have claimed that hundreds of dollars cash was missing when the deputy took them to jail.

Part of me says frick the cops for stealing money but the other part says don't drink and drive and you wouldn't find yourself in that situation. Drive under the influence and get what's coming to you.

Like I mentioned earlier. I think people have this perception because it's what they see in movies. If this happened often than the ole saying "loose lips sink ships" would eventually apply.

Is this a joke?

None of this is what your cash on hand is supposed to go towards. It's supposed to be put in your property until released, or added to your books for store.

You get free calls while in central booking. Those without family support can use that cash on hand to be placed on their books, to be able to purchase phone cards or use for commissary, when they're booked and out of central booking (placed on line).
