Bump. Made a bench.

Thanks for the tips on making the frame square.
Now I just need to paint the lid.

yes I know my screen is fricked. Damn birds have been slowly pulling it apart to make nests.

For future reference, just use the framing square. That's what it is made for

you did a nice job, you might end up having to reinforce the bench seat if there's going to be very much weight on it, is that 1/2" plywood?

yes, 1/2 plywood but its very strong. I deliberately overlapped it in the front to create an edge you could lift and its resting on the 2x4s all the way around.

yes, used framing square. worked perfectly.

thanks

oh and i put that floor in a couple weeks ago.

that 'allure' faux wood flooring from home depot is ridiculously easy to put down.

eta look closely at the first pic..you can see i was 2-3 planks short when i bought the flooring so i was damn lucky i was putting in a window bench..saved having to buy another $50 box of allure.

Looks nice. I think he was saying the rear 2x4 may need a brace to support it in the middle to prevent sagging over time.

If you are screwing it into the wall, it may not

the rear 2x4 is screwed into studs in the wall so hopefully that will help keep it from sagging.

i really dont!! if that flooring hadn't been ridicuously easy to put down i would have been in trouble. i could have never cut hardwood and had it come out that well.

I assume the top is hinged in the rear for storage?
What type and how many hinges did you use?

If you little Cads running around get some locking hinges.

Start by finding two 2x4s that are 100% straight. Give up. Put a pack of matches under the right side. Drink beer.

Isn't this what a square is for?

There will always be a slight variance though so you will need to let go.
