Not looking for anything fancy. Something to ride the kids around the neighborhood with a trailer or kid seat, get my cardio up and also have ability for trails. Under $500
What you got?

You might be able to find a Giant hybrid for that price if the bike shop is getting rid of last year models.

I’d recommend the “people going to work blocker 5000” or the “traffic law breaker 3000”

I bought schwin about 6 months ago at target for $250. So far it’s been great.

I bought a Specialized for about $500. Wish I would have gotten a regular mountain bike though. I never got used to smaller tires.

My husband (who is very big into mountain biking) was with me when I went shopping for my bike. I had asked him if I should just get a mountain bike instead of a hybrid in case I wanted to ride the bike on gravel, etc when we go camping.
He told me that if the majority of the time I'm gonna be riding on pavement...that I will be miserable with a mountain bike.

Been looking at this one but reviews are scarce:
Trek Sunfire
That's actually a Fuji but it doesn't matter. At that level, they are all Aluminum made in a factory in Taiwan or China and with a sticker slapped on them.

Definitely true. I'm not a bike expert by any means, but in my experience hybrids have larger wheel diameters and thinner tires than what an person would ride as a mountain bike. So the bike will be a lot faster on pavement or smoother roads.
Also, I don't know why anyone would get caught up in what the bike is made out of for just a general purpose ride with your kids or spouse on the pavement bike. Its not meant to win races or do stunts. Basic metal bikes are perfectly fine, and the weight doesn't matter unless its for a wife that is storing it hanging in the garage or something.
ETA: Almost every bike shop will have a decent brand of a low end hybrid bike whether it be Trek, Cannondale, SPecialized, etc. it doesn't matter a ton imo. Just get something that is fitted to you and not some walmart crap.

I'm not a huge fan of Fuji bikes after having a cyclo-cross bike from them, but if you are in the market for a lower end bike, try Performance Bike. It's a chain bike shop that sells Fuji and they always have huge sales.

I got a giant City Escape 2 with disc brakes for $500.
Great bike.
Great bike.

Get Giant/Specialized/Trek/Felt/Marin/whatever. Just make sure you get disc brakes since you're towing a kid around and a little bit of front suspension if you want to do some light trails. Usually a hybrid that has a small bit of front suspension will also have a bit wider tire than a standard road bike or standard hybrid. The tire will still be an easy roller for pavement but will have some design elements that will enhance traction for light trails.

Probably should look at a Trek Verve 2, they retail around $500 but you probably could find one on sale in the low $400s

This is true. But for my crew, the Fuji that we have is the only that has taken a beating and lasted.
