I agree but there has to be limits that protect other property owners and the community. Planning and zoning exist for a reason. Would you want a section 8 housing complex built next to your home?
They're making up rules after the fact. The people bought the property because the existing laws don't prohibit what they want to do.
Now the townspeople want to make a new rule since they found out what was planned for the site.
Were any existing zoning rules violated?

Just tell them the place plans on having a pet squirrel and a swat team will be dispatched.

Exactly.
And they're not even rezoning the land or anything. They're creating a new parish ordinance.

Acadia Parish attorney Luke Dupre
Guarantee you this baw at least reads this board.
quote:
Dupre said studies and many U.S. Supreme Court cases show that those types of social clubs bring crime and that there is a “higher propensity and chance for sexual assault, sexual crimes, drugs [and] drug crimes…”
“There are ancillary effects of what they do. They decrease property values. They make a neighborhood less desirable. They cause a public nuisance. There are state laws on the books about being able to enjoin public nuisances like this but the police jury is trying to be proactive with this…” Dupre continued.
quote:
“This ordinance will be quite restrictive and it would be for the public safety of the public and then also the safety of the patrons of the business itself,” he said. Dupre noted that the entirety of the police jury is in favor of the ordinance.
quote:
“The takeaway is there are probably a lot of, you know, swingers in the community that nobody knows about. That’s not what the parish is regulating. The parish police jury does not regulate sex. We regulate businesses, especially businesses that concentrate activities, which lead to more criminal conduct, health problems, public health issues, and other things that studies have shown.”
I'm contemplating filing some FOIAs

Update by KLFY - Having a hard time

by: Jasmine Dean Residents for and against a swingers club opening in Acadia Parish voiced their concerns during a public hearing Tuesday night. In that meeting, club owners revealed the building was vandalized during construction. Fantasies LS Club is being built in Branch, but there has been some pushback, leading to a new parish ordinance that could restrict or even ban the club. Douglas Brown, attorney for Fantasies LS Club, said the property was vandalized back in October, costing his clients tens of thousands of dollars. Brown says pipes for plumbing were laid out but then destroyed. Continuing to build after property was vandalized, the owners of Fantasies LS Club ran into another hiccup. “As soon as this process started rolling, here comes this ordinance, strangely enough,” Brown said. Concerns from some residents resulted in the Acadia Parish Police Jury creating an ordinance that will regulate some sex businesses but criminalize live sex shows. According to some parish officials, depending on how Fantasies LS Club is run, it may fall within that category. Brown said it’s unfortunate because his clients took the necessary steps to ensure Fantasies could operate properly by obtaining licenses, contracting engineers, drawing up blueprints and meeting with the parish. The Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office confirmed they received a report about the incident and were looking into it. There are no suspects.

I would imagine a mostly Christian conservative rural community would not be very welcoming to a club of this nature.

Businesses don’t build where there aren’t customers.

I thought everyone knew that if you lay out your pipe in a strip joint, youre going to get it destroyed. Take that to the privacy room

What is this Fantasies Club opening in Acadia Parish?
This is what happens when people don’t have wholesome things like a Top Golf to go to.
