I told the old lady I wasnt going to be doing any of that. I really put my foot down and only visited when it was required. Now im divorced and never have to visit.

Not my family, seems weird to want to spend time with them.
Maybe I'm the weird one but when my wife and I were dating I went with her when she visited her family probably 95% of the time (and we're not the type of couple that are always stuck up each other's butts). Unless I was working out of town, I was typically with her when she went. I'm very close with her family now, and I don't think that's a bad thing.

You should go with her and spend time with her family. This gives you the opportunity to have loud, angry, take her to pound town sex in her family's home. Done correctly, an awkward situation will ensue for everyone. They'll never look you in the eye again much less ask her to bring her friend with her to visit.

I expect people are quite different in this regard. Most of my Louisiana family passed years ago, I have Pennsylvania family who are all nutjobs that I wrote off years ago. It's just mom and dad that I see maybe twice a year.
Given that interaction, if I were going to take more weekend family trips it would be to see my own parents.
