Found this town by accident a couple years ago and thought it was pretty awesome. Just a neat place to spend a day and you can tube in the river if you're into that

I dunno....

ET: as for the town itself, it's a pretty nice place. We've made the ride there a couple of times. We're talking about riding there again in August.

So are you the town? You got to admit, your fellow moving orange cone buddies love trashy places.

I went and it's terrible. Tubing on the creek they call a river sucks as it's shallow.

The shops are like any other tourist trap just designed to look similar to the swiss alps.

There are far better places to go than Helen, GA imo.

ETA: OP, biker gangs like the place too.

Get offended then proceed to prove his point that it is filled with bikers.

Good job

Actually spent my bachelor weekend up there. Rented a cabin a few miles up one of the fire trails, took a shitload of alcohol and guns, came down a couple of times that day and night with the guys to hit on the sorority girls tubing by (actually some solid talent floating down that river if you catch it on a Saturday), almost got arrested, wound up with alcohol poisoning, still made the Sunday afternoon first pitch for the Braves the next day.

Not a bad place for a long weekend if you're into drinking and don't mind trashiness.

Did any of what he or I said have to do with you? No, then why care?

There's only one or two bar/restaurants there I'd even bother patronizing.

The place is terrible. That picture in the OP is so enhanced but they forgot to remove the trailer trash in the camo pants. Probably has UG tattoo...on his neck.

lol, that looks like a butchered version of germany. No where in germany will you see those bright colors. In Bavaria, everything is white or tan (though they do paint murals on the walls) and there are more colors in the Rhineland but they're more muted. And the actual architecture looks like a bastardization of the two.

That being said, my mother grew up in Germany so she likes it (i think). I've never been.

I thought the shops were pretty cool. My wife had a good time walking around and shopping. Like others have said, it's good for a weekend trip.

I have little doubt they had thousands of sample pictures to peruse, and the best one available still had some redneck in camo pants in it

There is an authentic German restaurant called the Bodensee in Helen. If you like German food I recommend it (if they are still around).

Like I said, we took a shite ton of alcohol up there with us so we were already fairly sauced when we went to town. Sitting at one of the bar's overlooking the river and hitting on the girls in bikinis below is a solid Saturday past time, I don't care how shitty the rest of the bar is.

I don't think anyone is claiming that it's the same as taking a trip to Germany. Just a weird/unique place right in the Appalachian mountains

If OP is intent on going my only advice is to go to Hofer's for breakfast, Betty's grocery store to fill your growlers to forget where you are and don't fall for "tubing".

The food in the fake Alps area is terrible in my experience and is nothing more than a bunch of frozen food from Sysco. I would have liked a little bar on the "river" (it's a fricking creek) called the Troll tavern but their food sucked and the beer wasn't cold and the rednecks were everywhere on the creek.
