Everywhere we went and I spoke to people, they were from right down the road in some podunk town. They were coming to the big city to eat and tube.
Hot beer and Sysco food is awful. In their defense, most tourist traps don't have good food and don't really need to because many folks never go back. It is weird that they make every attempt to make sure that folks don't come back but whatever.

You're right about this. It is at the southern edge of the Smoky Mtn. foothills.
The best time to go in in the fall when the leaves are changing and it's cooled off a bit...

Blue Ridge Mountains, Smoky Mountains southern border should be famaliar to you, since it is US129 or the Dragon.

Skip Helen--very kitschy and contrived.
Definitely visit the Tallulah Gorge and hike the gorge floor. Amazingly beautiful! To me, the best attractions in north Georgia are the natural ones--not the man-made touristy places.

I went there once on a day trip and pretty sure I seen all they had to offer.
There is a pretty tall waterfall not far from there that's pretty cool.

Been through multiple times and I know it well. I just lump the Smokies and Blue Ridge together because they're really all the same range as part of the southern edge of the Appalachians. They're all the same to me. As for the Dragon, it use to be a fun ride. Last time I went though it was about overrun with people. It's got too crowded in my opinion

I guess it also depends on who you talk to. I've always thought of the area from Helen up to around Gatenburg and Pigeon Forge as the Smokies and as you get up towards NC as Blue Ridge.
Really it's a matter of scemantics though, they're all the same range really.

I know and understand what you're saying. What I'm trying to get across to you though is a lot of people call the mountains above Helen "the Smokies", not just the park itself.
