I was interested but never had the time for it becauseI had to work. Seems like a good way to network and make friends

I went to a state school here, was in a fraternity that had just gotten on campus a few years before I did. By the time I left we won the award for best chapter in the country. Every time we went to the house at LSU or Tulane it was every trope/bad stereotype of a fraternity you can imagine. I think this is true for many of the organizations. Guess that's why they've been kicked off of both.
Big school = legacies and daddy's money which leads to entitled shite heads that perpetuate the stereotype and laugh at it/don't even realize it. Most mid-major or state schools or regular people who join for the values.

I went to a mid-sized University for UG, and was in a Fraternity. Didn't "buy my friends" because I was friends with many of them beforehand. Also, my parents didn't pay for my dues (I had Summer jobs and eventually worked as a Co-Op). It wasn't dedicated to the art of drinking, either.
My best friends in our fraternity all did very well in school. For example: One is a Thoracic Surgeon, one is Chief Physician at another hospital, and one is a Judge. Interestingly enough...one who was a couple of years behind me has a family, and his middle son is one of the top 5 highest paid players in the NFL right now.
Sure, we had parties and we played intermural sports together...we also did a lot of philanthropy work, and learned a lot from each other. I have plenty of friends who were not part of the Greek system, too. Some schools have really horrible systems and organizations that are pretty crappy. Mine just wasn't, I guess.

Their test bank was helpful in PETE

was in a fraternity at Alabama. Was great the first couple of years but the overall experience, as an active, was not there for me after tuning 21. 3 out of 5 years as an active was good enough for me. Still close with a hand full of guys. No regrets but indifferent on if I would do it again.

same, or even later, because after we closed up the Bengal we'd all head across the river to San Souci for after work partying, college was sometimes hell

I also wanted to add I met guys in diff fraternities too because of rush and various things going on.
Two of my best guy friends still today were in a different frat than me. One was a fiji and one an acacia.

I was in a small fraternity at Alabama and was considered one of the "meh" frats that sororities didn't care to go on swaps with. I was tired of it after 2 years myself

Looking back I wouldn't have done it as I never clicked with any of them. I "talk" to just one of the guys and it's just once a year to wish him a happy birthday and we just have basic chit chat with that.
