I know this is a bizarre story, but a colleague of mine is quitting his job this year so that he can work on opening up a stadium-style concession stand in Baton Rouge. I told him this is a shitty idea because you need to sell more than just nachos, burgers, hotdogs, and sodas to be a successful restaurant. However, in theory, would any of you guys stop by a concession stand rather than a fast food restaurant if you were driving down the road? Just a little food for thought on this Saturday afternoon.

Accurate.

No. Can't I already stop by a gas station for his food?

You might suggest to him to have someone throw piss balloons at his customers to give them an authentic Tiger Stadium experience.

Concession stands can take longer than some fast food places. Who wants to wait in non-ac line in this heat anyway?

Will he be selling alcohol?

I could see a stadium-themed sports bar with concession style servings for an artificial stadium experience.

Outside of football season, how does he plan to make money with such a place?

So like a snowball stand without snowballs but with burgers instead?

If only Aramark would open stand alone concession stands across Baton Rouge...

I'd move back for THAT...

Probably but you just never know. Sometimes you will see a business that for a million reasons should be a total failure but they some how thrive. I know one thing, if I were going to quit my job to start a business it damn sure wouldn't be a restaurant. The success rates for start ups are terrible. Now if you know what you are doing food wise and know damn well you can put out a quality product a food truck would be the way to go. As long as you have the capital to sustain it until you can get established and develop customers.

I seriously doubt a bank will give him the funds to do this, but seeing the variety of shite establishments in BR, I could be wrong.

This is true, about ten years ago some moron decided to open a crepe bar in downtown Athens. That's right.... a fricking Crepe Bar. They make crepes.

Furthermore, they opened it in a spot that is notorious for revolving door business failures.

Ten years later that mother fricker is still going, and it's always packed.

The millennials flocked to it.

Frat dudes, sorority girls, other, all drinking beer and eating crepes.

It still boggles my mind.

In the last ten years, of all the decent businesses that have opened and closed in downtown Athens, it is the fricking crepe bar that is still going strong.

fricking crepes.

But I'm a crepe,

I'm a weirdo.

What the hell am I doing here?

I don't belong here.
