Hate it. Everyone can hear everybody so no one dares make any noises. You feel like all of your phone calls are being monitored. There's always at least one secretary reporting everything she hears to HR. Hate it so much.

Open offices are the only offices I've ever worked in, but I was in the design field and now I'm in the construction field. I loved it then and still love it. Really great for creativity and problem solving.
I should clarify the landscape architecture firm I worked for was 10 people at most. Eight people worked in the open studio, and the two principals worked in offices off to the side, though they had large doors that were open 99% of the time. We had two rooms where one could escape if quiet time was needed.

Welcome to corporate America..Chevron, BP etc., have had these setups for years...
We just merged with a company that does it at their offices, and the short cubes have already started rolling in

My biggest thing is that I absolutely hate other people listening to me on the phone. Even as a kid, I would walk outside when on the phone. Even around my SO, I still often go in the other room when someone calls me on the phone.

Productivity skyrocketed once we implemented a “nipples hard = need to focus, nipples soft = have time to talk” system, and it turns out that creativity is at its peak when your genitals are unbound.
Wow

I'm the same way. Luckily, I have an office and my door is closed ~90% of the time. I don't really need to communicate with anyone around me, if they need something they can knock.

We have a fairly mobile workforce. All of our non-secretaries have individual offices with four solid walls.
But when I walk the halls on any given day, I see maybe less than a third are actually occupied. Those that are not in the office are either teleworking or working out in the community.
So we're considering changing our floor plan to this open space concept. It won't be a cubicle farm. Supervisors and upper management (positions that typically require us to be here every day) will have personal offices. Under the proposal we're considering, no one else will have an assigned office, but there will be multiple individual offices available to be reserved in advance. It will be a number comparable to the number of people who are currently here each day. There will be multiple additional seating options available to accommodate days when everyone must be here. Typically, those days don't require people to be here all day, so cubicles and other "touch down stations" will be scattered throughout the office. There will also be an open space break room "cafe style" being tabbed as a "work lounge" where mobile devices will be the preferred tool for catching up on any electronic documentation and queries that must be done.
I'm almost convinced that this is the way to go. It seems to make practical sense, but of course people who lose their continuously assigned personal space will be unhappy.

That would make sense for my work environment, if we were all domiciled in the same location.

We had a management meeting and agree this would be a good move. That way, we can check out the hotties that are usually hidden by cubes.

Seemed to work well at Dunder Mifflin.

My company is moving to a new office building that will have majority open floor space with "work spaces" which are basically low wall cubicles. Only upper management will have offices.
Time to freshen up that resume.

We just went to the concept. It's big in advertising nowadays, despite the fact that research shows it doesn't work (what it does do, though, is reduce costs).
It can get loud, can be tough to concentrate, and there can be a lot of distractions. You don't really have any privacy, and a lot of people just wear headphones all day.
It can be kinda fun at times when people bust out the booze and beer. And it helps because we need to be in constant contact with our coworkers when tons of shite is going on. It also gives a chance to check out more of the smokeshows that work here more regularly.
Here's what we're working with. The floors are much larger, but this is our area. My boss is EVP level and that's her spot on the left side, mine is across from her. So if you're a vain SOB, you probably won't like not having the nice office.
