that's the one area I will spend more on, I refuse to cross the pond in coach ever again, my wife could have been a good travel agent though, she's real good about finding great deals on lodging, excursions, and airfare, and even better, she pays for it

I know they wouldn't call Disney significant.
Actually, you're just guessing that. And it's too late for you to ever know how they would have viewed it as young children. The look on my kids' faces while at Disney is worth every penny. We've also done hiking/mountain trips too. It's not an either/or scenario.

It’s not about making it for the wealthy. It’s about creating a barrier that can’t be called racist.

Both, the answer is both.
Take your kids to do genuinely cool stuff most of the time. Less materialistic stuff. National Parks, Europe, whatever. Multi-family vacations at a beach house on SGI or somewhere there is nothing else to do but make your own fun.
And take them to Disney once or twice when they're the ideal age for it.
I agree with this sentiment.

I take my kids camping and to the beach as well as Disney. They enjoy those trips too but like you said, their faces in Disney is worth every penny.

Wife and me lived in Florida most of the 70s and part of the 80s...While living there we had family and friends we didn't know we had.
They'd come stay with us and want us to take em to the beach and Disney World.

I have a cousin on disability that takes his family to Disney World every year. It's gross.

A family friend and his wife took three kids, he swears they spent 10K

Yeah it's not some slippery slope. We've gone once with our oldest when he was 4, we'll probably go one more time when his brothers are about that age.
Both things are true - it was a blast, I'm excited to take the others, and I'll be very, very surprised if we end up going more than 3x total in their combined 20 years of adolescence or so.

Have not been to Disney for years, but a friend recently went. She said that "ruffle bloomers" are apparently in fashion and lots of very young girls are walking around with 1/2 of their cheeks exposed...

Call me crazy but $7000 for a trip for a family of four to Disney, what is going to be one of the most significant childhood trips, is just not that much money.
That is fricking insane to go to a glorified theme park

I do think they know this and it’s why they are leaning so heavily into IP at the parks.
Every new or rethemed attraction is tied to a current character in movies or television.
Kid likes Tiana so they get mom and dad to bring them to ride that ride. Would not care if it was still Brer Rabbit
This is all true, but their capex spending lately seems more tilted to adults rather than children. Guardians, Tron, the Star Wars stuff, villains land coming up. Even the front of Epcot redo feels more like a convention center vibe than a kid-friendly area.

This is our plan. We just got back from Disney with our daughter who is almost 5 years old, it was awesome for her and she really enjoyed it. When our 1 year old is around 4 or 5 years old we’ll go again, and that’s it.
We’ll go on trips elsewhere other than those 2 Disney trips. Even if you just stay in America there are plenty of places to explore, both natural and man-made.

You can’t just exclude airfare lmfao.

I think the locals, maybe Floridians in general get a 30 or 40% discount.

excpet for all the money I spent, my trip was basically free!

Never priced it, but can a family of 4 spend 2 weeks in Europe for under 7000? Seems like lodging and flights alone would likely be 4-5k.

it's not that big of a deal, for years we've flown for free but I don't do that anymore, the wife is good about shopping fares, using miles, credit card points etc., you don't have to always pay "sticker price"

My wife has always been a Disney fan , me not so much. She wants to see about to Disney Tokyo. The park itself isn’t that bad but to fly from New Orleans is expensive
