Now this is what I was wondering about

That's not close to what you should expect That kind of money is for 2 bedroom villas at the most expensive resorts with the best views.

The Polynesian is about a grand a night and we need two rooms.

Trust me, we looked. We needed two rooms. At the end of the day, I rather trade a 15 minute uber ride to give the kids a VIP day at Disney and Universal. We aren't going to be in the room that much anyway.

I lived in Florida for a couple of years. If your kids are older, island of adventures and universal studios is better. They used to have a deal on tickets that included both. The rolling coasters are kick arse. And universal has the whole Hogwarts thing if your into that.

Is 7 grand accurate for a good time there for a family from south LA?

You can do it at various budgets. We stayed 4 nights and did the parks for 3 days, and it was about 5k for 2 adults and 1 child. You can go cheaper than that, but you can also go much more expensive than that. My kid was pretty pooped by the third day.

Almost all travel is expensive now. Any decent location plus food, lodging will run you several thousand. And that’s not including visiting attractions while there

Did Disney for 5 days, 3 parks and two “off days” and it ran us about 3500 for the tickets and hotel. Spent about $1500 while there. So all in all about $5000. We didn’t stay at the cheapest resort nor the most expensive. Probably could have saved another $500 if I went with their cheapest options

For the price of Disney you can go to Europe and see real castles

In fairness, this argument is totally fine if we are clowning Disney Adults, but certainly you understand why children/families would value doing it at least once.

I’ve already told my wife that Disney World will never happen for our family. Can we afford it? Sure.

But I’m not going to spend $5k or more for LESS THAN A WEEK just for a damn amusement park. I don’t care how “magical” or great the service is. shite isn’t worth that much.

My kids can go when they’re older and want to spend their money. I don’t have many lines in the sand when it comes to my family but this is one of them.

Right, our kids can see the fake castle once. Otherwise we’re seeing the real ones. We were pretty “anti” Disney, but we knew our daughter would appreciate it much more than seeing the Eiffel Tower. We’ll bring her to see that when she’ll appreciate it a bit more, not when she’s 4

IDK why they are hating on you. Do your trip how you see fit. You do lose some perks from staying off property like extended hours but with the VIP stuff, I'm not sure you'd need that anyway.

Something just feels off with all this and now I'm curious. How many people? And I guess that means multiple ubers each way daily. How many nights? The Lakeshore Reserve place looks to average about $450 a night after taxes in summer. You could have done two rooms at Pop Century for example and been close to that number.

It's not hate, just genuinely curious at how he got to the $12k number for on property.

Definitely don't need on property perks when doing VIP :lol

Pretty sure those characters are long irrelevant. Disney isn’t what it once was.

You don't need to stay at the Polynesian, but even then their rates are less than $1k a night, especially for a longer stay.

Wut? My kids are 9 and 5 and all the classic Disney characters are still extremely popular in their age group.
