A Christian friend of mine told me yesterday that my lack of joy stems from the fact that I am “not saved.” If I were to pray and read the daily word of God that I would have joy and then have things like a girlfriend or wife.

There must be more to this than is in this story. She talks about no joy, then lists things that bring her joy.

We don't have the whole story here.

You think that girl had no men circling her?

She chose to be in solitude.

The thing people contemplating suicide either don’t or can’t fathom is that there is no guarantee that death will be better than what they are going through. None of us know for sure what is beyond that line. There could be worse pain that what’s on Earth.

Ehh, I don't think so. I also don't think she is going to actually miss those things either. Her brain activity stops, its over. Lights are out. Thus also ending the suffering, because you just won't be anymore.

Good God.

Unfortunately it’s the absence of God that leads people to feel such unimaginable emptiness.
Maybe she believed and maybe she didn’t I’m not judging either way. Simply pointing out that even great people with their stuff seemingly together can lose that communion and fall into complete emptiness

That was the first thing that struck me. She was listing all the ways her life was supposedly amazing, and apparently being alone was part of that.

Extremely sad and unfortunate, but if I’m reading it how I think she intended it, it gives a glimpse into her mindset. A mindset that I believe has been shaped by the instagram/YOLO culture.

Apparently, being alone (by “alone” I’m assuming she’s insinuating “free”) nowadays is something to strive for and be envied. A lack of commitments and being free of the burden of relationships is supposedly liberating.

It’s actually really sad. That was the whole lesson of the movie “Up In The Air” with George Clooney.

People who committ suicide are without a doubt the strongest people in the world. Consequently also the weakest. That note she wrote just said how tired she was. But tired of what? Always being let down? It’s bullshite for me to say, but I wish she would’ve went more in depth as to why she came to her conclusion. That letter without knowing the outcome was pure and in some cases joyous (IMO). A beautiful woman, lacking what...know one will now. Maybe it’s not meant to be known.

Just enjoy it while it lasts.

Rest In Peace.

That one is damn strange. As everyone has pointed out, she clearly did have things that brought her pleasure.

Isn't like eating at her favorite spot gave her no satisfaction or pleasure. She mentioned loving people. Mentioned tracing a sleeping eyebrow so she had sex in her life. Food, sex and probably money.

Doesn't mention health. I assume the depression had her tired. Sounds like she had a chemical imbalance that was causing depression. But the dark hole she was in, seemed like it had plenty of lights.

Just totally bizarre. Doesn't even read off like someone in so much pain they just couldn't take it anymore. Having said that, she had to have been in pain to just end it.

Fracking nuts. That one is truly scary. Suicide always stuns those around it but that one makes even less sense than normal.

Agree. When the wires are crossed, the brain doesn't function correctly. Like bad wiring in a house. Some people are psychotic, MPD, depressed, etc. Sometimes the brain is screwed up. Sane people trying to crucify these people (especially suicides) is simplifying a very complex thing. I am all for 100% personal responsibility, but I also understand that a person's mind can be diseased, just like something like cancer.

I reference this quote from Ironbat (during a thread where a hot track star killed herself)

quote:

why should she kill herself. kinda stupid. im fat, stupid, terrible gpa, and a forver alone virgin and Im still chuggin along.

Generally speaking only rich and successful people kill themselves. Poor people have poor people shite to do, they don't have time for that.

When you have nothing to lose, you have everything to live for.

When you're on the bottom you have nothing but hope above you.

Once youre on top the mountain all you have left is to jump off. It's the climb that counts.

It's the journey, not the destination that gives life meaning.

I don’t get this line of thinking and agree with Huey. My doc in college came to the conclusion I was depressed, gave me anti-depressants and what not and they sucked arse. The stigma of depression is bullshite IMO and most people fall into that state due to their own actions or lack thereof. I made life changes and stopped taking the pills and I started feeling way better and my life improved. People who let it overtake their lives are weak minded and the empathy they receive only reinforces that mindset.

Politely disagree. I believe there is situational depression and chronic depression. I have been through two bouts of situational depression, I made a change in my life, threw out that which made me numb, and got back to being me. My father, it wouldn't matter, he will never be happy. I hurt for him.

I'm trying to think of an OT suicide note in the same tone as that one.

"I'll miss chick fil a waffle fries, making eye contact at sonic, mowing my yard and mud checking strangers with soft knuckles"
