Meh. This certainly isn't true for all. Some, sure, probably do feel this way. However, suicide is an intensely selfish act at its core. Not wanting to fight. Not wanting to endure. And in many, many cases, I suspect the thought is, "Well, those bastards are going to miss me" - or "They're going to be sorry they did this to me" or thoughts to that effect. Far more than those who really do feel that everyone will be better off without them.

It really is selfish. I can definitely justify it if, say, someone has a terminal disease and wants to spare their family the worst though.

Or when you’ve lost all quality of life. I’ve seen husks of humans...I don’t want to get like that, shitting myself and just being a burden.

I agree it is, however, a mentally ill person may not think so and if they do their anguish is just too much to bare and that’s their only escape. Regardless it’s mental illness that prompts someone to kill themselves.

No sane rational person would harm themselves, what makes you think that someone in that state of mine can rationally decipher if it’s selfish or not?

I once found myself in a real tough spot a year after I lost my dad. I was alone for a few weeks and in a pretty secluded place where our old house was in the country. Not alot to do, and depression had me by the ball sack. God spoke to me one night though and gave me some hope when I was really contemplating ending it all. That was 11 years ago, since then I got married have 5 amazing God Children and plan on having my own one day, and life has been alot better. Actually today is my birthday and I am truly blessed to see another one my 35th. If anyone is having problems, seek some help before making any rash decisions, I am living proof that everyone has a purpose.

I also felt absolutely nothing during what should have been the happiest and darkest times in my life.

This doesn't seem to add up with what she decided to do and even what followed in her note. She talked about how she will miss songs speaking to her soul, saying "I love you", etc. If you feel nothing, songs don't speak to your soul and "I love you" doesn't mean anything. And this was obviously a dark time in which she felt sad because she said in the post that it was time for her to be happy.

She said that she "accepted that hope is nothing more than delayed disappointment" and she was tired of feeling tired. She obviously had hope for something that wasn't happening and must have felt defeated, so that is ultimately sad.

given that she had mental issues, she'll eventually be there, but she'll need to purify her soul first.

She sure listed lots of things she would miss, so it seems like she had lots to live for. Odd.

Achievers who rarely struggle are probably at the high end of suicides. Pain teaches more than success ever will.

Lot of truth. You strive for goal after goal only to attain it, then when the happiness and fulfillment you sought isn't there, you start again. After awhile, you realize that there is no end game for you, no prize, just MORE. Whatever that "more" is depends on the person whether it be money, land, prestige etc.

I can relate. What gets me back? Going to the woods. Getting back in nature and simplifying things. Hell, even busting my arse working at my camp all day helps. May ache like a sumbitch that night, but nothing cleanses the mind like some good ol' cutting, burning, and fricking shite up with a tractor.

Honestly, it comes across like you heard an oversimplified explanation once upon a time and now apply it to everyone.

If her letter is taken on any kind of face level - she seems to get that people will miss her but that she’s just tired of feeling unconnected and emotionally empty herself. Very few of her pleasures listed were true joys. She listed a ton of food she likes but that in her highs and lows she’s felt similarly isolated and unconnected to the moment. Even among her human enjoyments it was “saying I love you” not “being in love” and eye contact with strangers. The unexpected hugs and comments about her dad were among the few things that really read as major human connection.

Once you get past the list of food.... I don’t think there’s near as much happiness as some are projecting on the pretty girl that eats well. I wonder when/how her dad passed.

Like many others have said already- that girl never got the purpose of life.

I think I counted 26-28 “I” or “me” uses in her final note.

She never figured out that life is about loving and serving others. It’s about receiving love from those same people. (Not from anonymous internet readers.)

The saddest thing of all is that once these type of threads and news stories end, she will not likely be remembered and will not likely be missed.

Why? Because Its hard for a person to genuinely miss someone who always focused on themselves first.

Does this seem normal to you?

I’d be willing to bet not. She had a mental illness.

She couldn’t related to others, the world or anything else outside of her own struggles. It consumed her and it did so because she WAS mentally ill.

She wrote that like she's going somewhere that she's going to miss things. She didn't do anything but cease to exist. She had a twisted idea of what death was. Unfortunate.
