One of the items on the wife's christmas wish list is new sheets/pillow cases

For crying out loud - when did shopping for bed sheets become this complicated? There's a million different types, styles, brands, material blends, etc. to choose from. I thought this was going to be a slam dunk, but apparently this is just another setup for ole Spliff to fail hard at.
And I learned quickly not to read reviews on amazon, etc. Half the reviews people love the product and the other half hate it. it's like tigerdroppings' membership has reviewed every bed sheet ever made.

I'm about to need some new sheets, and everyone here has been raving about the bamboo ones

Just got these. It's our third set of the same kind, and my wife is picky as shite about sheets. It will take 10+ washes to get them right where they need to be, but they are very nice. And not stupid expensive for 400 TC.

Start with at least egyptian cotton.
I just purchased a new set at Pottert Barn as they have a sale going on although I just looked and the set I bought is no longer avail.
We like them and it is really good quality

No matter what you buy they will be the wrong ones. Put it back on here and tell her to order what she wants and you will pay for them.

If you and your lady like to get buck wild, get the ones with straps on the corners to keep them from popping off

No. Just a reference to the sheet style/brand.

I recently bought some Egyptian cotton 1000 thread count sheets and I love them. They're extremely soft, they stay chilled and don't get hot. Got mine off Amazon and did a lot of research. According to some reviews, stay away from the Sheets with over 1000 TC as it's not possible to get that many threads on a loom and they're very thin and cheap. I paid $150 for a king. Good luck

Long lasting amazing quality soft sheets = LL Bean
Google it, you can't beat them unless you spend a lot of money.
