re: One "normal" thing you'll never allow your kids to do. Defend your position.

So, I take it you aren't allowing your kids to read either?

umm do you have a kid in HS team sports? because they arent communicating with the parents. its simply a team groupme or teamsnap or wtf ever and they communicate through that to the players themselves
Ummm Yes. As I’ve said the HS has banned cell phones on campus so they don’t use apps. It’ll be in their school email or AGAIN they simply tell them and expect the kids to remember.
It’s almost like different places do things differently and you don’t know everything.

You know, now that I think about it you don’t even need an iPhone for group me. There’s a way you can just get all the group me messages texted to you. Thus you could use the most basic flip phone and get the info you need. So the entire argument is moot.
The real argument is about your kids being bullied for not having a smart phone or whatever.
I’m not sure I would want my kids going to school with a bunch of people who would do that, personally.

never claimed to know everything at all. but understand many schools are exactly like i said and expect the kids to communicate and understand there are sports outside of schools that use those things too or use apps exclusively.

Then not sure why you’re posting like a know it all teenage girl then.
Happy for them. Neither our school nor our daughters soccer academy do that.

oh frick off, nobody is posting like a teenage girl. i simply was pointing out that many school do communicate that away once in hs and i was talking to parents with younger kids
the actual school uses email or the portal. the coaches/sponsors are the ones who communicate through other apps
but say your kid plays AAU or travel baseball or some other sport outside of the HS...they all use different apps to communicate
and the whole point was...you may think you are protecting your kid by not allowing a smart phone....yea its the opposite.

It's very saddening how this mindset has spread. You're just lazy and don't feel like putting in the work to meet and vet your kid's friend's parents.

Play soccer. I'm trying to raise my boys to be men.

9 minimalist phones
I’d like for parents to adopt this happy medium en masse for the next 5 years so I can be well informed by the time it’s time to weigh phone options
I like how this one has buttons:

Anime. If Pokemon is anime, none of that crap either.
It might be mainstream now but the weird kids were all into that crap when I was in high school.
I don't think this was a thing when I was in HS. If it was it was likely popular with the small group of nerds, but times change and things are a lot different. When we were kids, things were different than when I parents grew up (although I do think the change from when we were young to today is more than the change between parents and kids in the past).
It seems like.. During the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and into the early 2010s dudes had the same goals. they went out, chased skirts. Everyone always looked forward to getting their drivers license and was ready the second they turned 15.. or 16 whatever the age used to be.
The age to buy alcohol changed the August before I turned 18.. Then after I turned 18 there was a short period where 18 year olds could legally buy it, which was only for a few day or weeks maybe? But there was that time when people looked forward to being able to buy alcohol.
It seems like in every decade I mentioned, people in high school used to meet up on weekends and there was always a place to meet up, drink, during the winter it was bonfires, every once in awhile a fight would break out. But I guess it all depended if you grew up in the city, suburbs or in the country. I grew up in the suburbs and the country then at times went to baton rouge..
I remember my daddy telling me they used to catch a train to New Orleans, pass out in jackson square, wake up and jump on the train back from New orleans.
But today kids don't seem to do shite like that. Getting their drivers license don't seem like that big of a deal. They all hop on to play whatever games they play and they communicate that way.
It seems like the ones who are series about academics have a lot more resources for them. They can go into college with a semester already under their belt, things like that but their social life is just different.

Wear crocs, at all, but even more so wear crocs with socks. Anyone who does this looks like an idiot. Will not buy them for anyone and won't let kids look like idiots (in that way, they find other ways on their own).

I'm a similar age. Pokemon used to just be for nerds when I was in school. Things have changed. Most kids like Pokemon now and collect Pokemon cards, travel ballers or nerds.
Hell ESPN just posted the Brewers rookie pitcher opening up a pack of Polemon cards in the Brewers dugout the other day.

Yea I’m the clown because I said it’s fricking weird you don’t trust your kids nor yourself enough as a parent to allow a high school kid to have a smart phone and internet access before college
Yea that’s it…I’m the weird parent and the clown
