This is just a condo complex. They're a dump too, used to pass it every day. They've been falling apart for years. No way 95% of residents there can pay that HOA.
It will get bought up, torn down, and the land will be redeveloped sooner than later.

That’s so 2005 of you. Now you have HOA companies that get invited into neighborhoods to police residents and purposefully find issues

What a gross, slimy, disgusting job that should be abolished

Call me crazy, but I think this might make vacations more expensive.

It is just like raising a lease so someone moves out

Imagine owning your house outright and having it forclosed on over hoa fees.
Beautiful house in CCL went to Sheriffs Sale a few weeks ago for 12k in homeowners association fees.
*sale was stopped about 15 mins before auction, but damn that would be a tough way to lose a property.
I’m assuming there was no mortgage.

How does a town raise the HOA fees? Is this one of those places where the town in one big development?

I'm just running into this for the first time, I'm closing on a rental in a gated community near Tampa that doesn't have an HOA but the community pays a separate tax to the township for street and common area maintenance, it isn't very much but it's the first time I've run cross this

If it was stopped right before the sale, it was most likely because the mortgage holder stepped in.
If it was a "sheriff's sale" it was probably property taxes, not HOA fees. Those are typically done via non judicial foreclosure.

Seriously, what kind of complete, loser moron would even consider paying that?

That's because one Florida town has shocked residents by tripling HOA fees to over $3,300, according to The Daily Mail.
they owe millions to the county for code violations, is the cause for the increase

They don't. It was a shitty article written by someone likely not from the US misrepresenting a shitty condo association that deferred maintenance and now has to catch up and has higher insurance so they are forced to raise HOA fees.
This shitty clickbait article was reposted by a Russian propaganda spreader on Twitter to make America look bad? I don't know. Most of what we are seeing now is either 100% bullshite or 70% bullshite or spun some was to fit some assholes narrative.

CCLA's HOA actually does something. There is a shitload of mowing, pond and irrigation maintenance. The whole neighborhood is fenced and there is a 24 hour guard that actually guards the entrance. There is also in neighborhood patrolling and road and sidewalk maintenance.
They get what they pay for.

Not really. The goal is to keep property values up by maintaining neighborhood standards
Sounds trashy.

These condos are literally falling apart. Have been for years. Surprised they're not condemned honestly. Probably as close to the ghetto as you're ever gonna get in Winter Park, FL.

There is this fairly new thing called Google. If you will go to the top of the page where you tried to make some sort of anti semitic rant you can type in Google and it will go there. When it does type in "retirees in florida can't afford rising hoa fees". Thousands of articles related to retirees being forced to sale or even abandon their retirement homes due to increasing HOA fees and, admittedly I ain't read every one of them, I have read a few and no one mention anyone's religion. I would posit, however, that given the area where this is happening it is probably happening to a bunch of retired Jewish people.....
