Part of the problem I see with trucking companies is the number of non-Americans they hire to drive trucks today, but I digress.

Celeron was big in transporting auto parts north/south from the Mexican border. Some reports say that the UAW strike that shut in some plants and the resulting canceled truck loads were enough to tip the scales to bankruptcy to an already financially troubled company.

Shite like this never happened when Jimmy Hoffa and Frank Sheeran were running things.

There’s lot of freight out there to move.
While true, the rates are absolutely horrible right now.

Yet my company keeps giving me internal freight rates that are expensive as shite. Either we have a lazy logistics manager or we are trying to make money off freight.

they were huge in:
automotive
retail (kroger/walmart)
MillerCoors
among many others they hauled direct and had multiple relationships on the brokerage side and hauled most everything you can put in a DV

"Shenanigans" per your quote line. the market is soft and the rates are low. Your "Internal" sources are making change in this market if you are not seeing a decrease in rates.

So are these guys just sitting idle at truck stops?

How does a truck driver live paycheck to paycheck? You can live in the truck.
They work for a few weeks straight then blow every cent on their week off, return to work with nothing to show for it. When drivers take time off, they have another driver use the truck, You don't get to just live in a company truck when it isn't being used

I did a quick search on this company and there are articles dating back two years of potential bankruptcy concerns.
While it sucks to basically be stranded, it wasn’t like people were unaware of how bad of shape the company was in.

Market corrections are great opportunities to position ones self.

I'm not falling for his one.

but the drivers are responsible for the freight in their trailer and the equipment to the company
And how does a company filing chapter 11 enforce this?
Posted on 12/9/19 at 3:38 pm to Horsemeat
This is why it's an awful decision for the entire industry to haul freight for cheap arse rates.

A driver with a safe record can literally get a new job in under a day. They can finish their 11 duty hours with their new company.
The drivers are absolutely the least impacted by this shite show. Not trying to minimize it, but it’s a fact.

I hear the trucking industry is in desperate need of drivers.

the DOJ isn't filing chapter 11. That property in their trucks belongs to the Shipper until it hits the Consignee's dock.
At no time does that driver or his company take ownership of the freight. If there is an issue with the freight the liquidating company will prosecute the driver including jail time and restitution of claimed commercial invoice value.
