For a lot of those, both statements may ring true for me. I never got into following a band, or paying attention to the names of songs; but once I start to hear it, I'll know the song

Your mother never played Don't Look Back in anger by Oasis while on the way to the movies? It's an all time great song.
Better Than Ezra formed while at LSU so they are worth giving a try.
THe song that is #1 on there is pretty incredible so give that a go too.
