re: On the market for an F-150. I've come to the OT for advice

This is kinda tricky because the F150 offers stuff that you just can't get on the other trucks. Standard AC seats on the Lariat and up. Standard remote tailgate open on the fob. Available 360 camera. Park assist. Panoramic roof. Trailer backup pro. None of the other trucks offer those features. Obviously, most are just luxuries that aren't necessary, but when you compare apples to apples, I don't think the Fords are much more expensive than their competition.
Ford offers the most, and the coolest options. You can build them out beyond a Lexus. But, you can still get an XLT with equipment that'll blow anything from a decade ago away for the same price as the other brands of similar trim/option level, aside from Ram, which will always be cheapest because they are selling you garbage quality.

Bought an FX4 lariat loaded minus navigation out the door for 43,500 back in Feb. It stickered at $55k.
Note: it was a 2015 though. I always try to buy last year's models end of the month, early in the year.

Is a good strategy.

Always have gotten good deals this way.
Also: the new series of F150's is not only the best truck I've ever owned/driven; it's the best vehicle I've ever owned/driven.
And I don't haul hardly ever so I went with the 2.7. Incredible how much power it has yet has features like the engine turning off when idling at a stoplight. I have a very heavy foot and consistently am in the 18-21 mpg overall.

The 2.7 is a marvel. In some ways it is superior to the 3.5. If you don't tow, there's really no reason to get a 3.5.

You're also ignoring higher cost of maintenance, the higher cost just to the diesel, etc. You are being 100% ignorant in this thread.
You must of never own a diesel. This statement is bullshite!
Gas truck, oil change every 3K
Diesel truck oil change every 7.5K
Gas price here $2.02
Diesel here $2.09
Gas truck avg mileage, guess around 18 mpg, towing a boat that is 6K, mileage drops to around 12-13 mpg
Diesel truck, avg, 22 mpg, towing same load, mileage around 20 mpg.
Resale value.
Gas, lost all
Diesel, avg of 5K over same truck as a gas.
So, what else you want to know?

Toyota sells every truck they make
So does GM and Ford...both of which get pretty expensive.

I don't think Toyota's plan is to try to outsell the others, their plan is to build a very loyal customer base, and they are experts at it.
I want a Toyota 4Runner....but I won't drink the Toyota cool aid. I've owned a Camry before, and I know Toyota's reputation is mostly bullshite.

The Tundra doesn't feel faster, and isn't faster. Remove your bias and be objective.
The Chevrolet 6.2L and boosted Ford V6 are both more powerful and faster.
Tunrda 5.7 was wicked quick relative to the 5.4L boat anchor Ford when it came out in 2007 though. The new trucks are faster.

I've rented a lot of cars with this feature and I have yet to find one that didn't annoy the shite out of me. I'd try to turn this off if I had it on my truck.

quote:Most people wait 5-6k for an oil change and a deisel change is 3x that of a gas truck. I drove my 13 f250 all over the south a lot of highway miles at 17k average. Not to mention fuel filter changes and DEF costs of a modern diesel. Also diesel may be the sam cost now but historically over the past 5 years or so its been considerably more for diesel, like $.75 a gallon.

Chevy claims this crown but is very deceiving with how thy do it.
A V6 2wd model with the 3.23:1 back end is the one they advertise for fuel economy. I call it the "old man" version.
Good luck finding one on a dealership lot equipped that way.
People that do find one will likely use it to drive back and forth to the doctor's office and a fishing hole. Aluminum boat in tow sometimes.

I don't think the oil change intervals have been anywhere near 3,000 miles for at least 10-15 years. More like 6,000-7,000. Perhaps more if you run synthetic.
2005 and newer Powerstrokes are notoriously expensive to keep on the road. Do not buy a diesel in a full sized truck if you don't need to tow a 5+ ton trailer regularly. Gas engines are much cheaper to own if you are buying a Ford.

I do 10k mile oil changes in my '12 f150 with 111,000 miles on it.

Yup, exactly.
Sort of like their 6.2 that they brag about, but in reverse. A dealer with 6 Denalis will have one with a 6.2 and out of a lot of 35 non-Denali trucks, there will be one other one with a 6.2 and it's the highest trim.
I've had 4 Chevy's, I'm not a hater, but their advertising is disingenuous when it claims that they sell both the "highest horsepower and the best gas mileage truck". They make hardly any of either model. Probably 70% of their trucks are 5.3s, which are behind the mainstay power-plant of the other manufacturers when it comes to power. Ram 5.7s, Ford 3.5s, and Toyota 5.7s are not rare at all and you don't have to buy the highest trim to get them. Ford's good gas mileage 2.7 is actually fun and widely available, unlike Chevy's NA V6 with a 3.2 rear and a hypermiling bib stuck under its chin like a catfish.

Rented a Ram 5.7 recently. It was powerful but the interior was very cheap feeling compared to the Chevrolet and Ford. The infotainment and blue tooth were very well designed IMO, but I'm not sure I'd buy one unless I wanted a diesel.
In that segment, I'd go with the GMC, Chevrolet, or Ford.

First off, everybody is ragging Dodges.
My truck, a 2004.5 2500 with the 5.9L Cummins only been in the shop one time in all those years for a water pump. 200K now and I looked at new trucks just a month ago. Couldn't find a truck that had a 8' bed, a must for me, nor a truck that had the power with a gas engine that is somewhat close to diesel that is a must for me and yet, there prices were way over 50K for crap.
So, I dropped $2500 for a complete new front end and 4 new tires. My truck is good for a easy 100K more in miles.
And yes, everything inside still works as the day I bought it.
