Can't speak to the new ones, but my 2007 is still running beautifully at 10 MPG

No in terms of the feeling of power.

I agree with you on all other counts. But in terms of what feels satisfying and powerful the Tundra with 5.7 still feels incredibly strong, due to the gearing.

Put 4.30s in anything it'll feel like a monster That's a $600 mod to any of the competitors.

That's not true at all, and I would imagine you know that. Toyota's only downside is the MPG. They are so much smarter than other other manufacturers in that they offer a limited number of trims/options, and therefore have less build issues.

And I bought a 2016 F150, but it was 2nd on my list. The reason I didn't buy Tundra was mainly the cost for an equivalent trim vehicle was about $5K higher, and I didn't want to spend that much.

A $600 mod that voids the warranty and isn't going to feel cohesive because the programmed shift-points in the computer weren't set for it and the individual gear ratios weren't selected with the intention of that kind of rear end. Most people aren't into heavy mods. Hardly anyone is. What people want is to buy a truck they like from the get-go. The Tundra is a truck intended by the manufacturer to have 4.30s, which from multiple perspectives is far superior to having to mod your truck to have them. If you want to talk potential with mods, we can do down an endless rabbit hole with every truck on the market. Tundra offers a non-warranty-shedding dealer-installed blower, so for $5,500 it can be faster than anything else on the market that still has an intact original manufacturer warranty.

Regardless if I sold them or not, I have had 2 Silverados, 1 F150, and was never stupid enough to own a Ram (or god awful Titan). Both Silverados (4.8 & 5.3) did not have raw power, torque was not instant, but reliable truck. F150 (granted was 4.6, but have driven rental 5.4 & 5.0) feels like brick with wheels, not much 'pep'. My 5.7 Tundra can manuever easy, better turn radius, and has plenty of power and features. Friend of the family and guy from this forum, both traded in F150 (3.5 eco & 5.0) and stated how much they love power and performance of Tundra over their previous Fords (both were only Ford guys, just test drove and looked at Tundra, bought same day)

You should immediately lift the front end a few inches but not the back end.

Other than that, what features/trim do you recommend for a new 2015/2016?

A Ford F150? The extended warranty.

I'm partial to the 5.0. If you tow anything over 4 tons with any regularity, you should consider the Super Duper Dooty.

It's very true.

Not true.

I'm guessing a Toyota salesperson fed you this BS. For 2016, Toyota offers 5 trims on the Tundra. Compare that to 4 for the GM trucks, and 6 for the F150, which only has 6 because they reintroduced the Limited this year. RAM has a bunch, but who cares about RAM

Kinda goes with the whole pay more for less thing that I was getting at. If the T on the hood helps a Tundra owner feel better about that, more power to them. The newest trucks all have very good reliability on average, so IMO you're not getting much by paying extra for that T.

They also rust out faster than any other truck on the road up here in PA. 5 year old Tundras and Tacomas up here are in vastly worse shape than the Ford, GM, or Chrysler counterparts unless they are parked November-March.

The lack of configurations are probably why GM and Ford are moving 700,000 or so trucks a year each and Toyota isn't.

I'm just saying you're being fooled by obnoxiously high gearing.

Ford has that too. GM has turbo kits. That's not really the point though.

Tundras aren't even the fastest trucks in stock form, so I'm not sure why yall are harping on that. The 3.5 Ecoboost blows it out of the water. From 0-30, the F150 is 0.7 second faster. Over a second faster 0-60, and almost a second faster in the 1/4 mile. Same thing with the GM 6.2 trucks. SO this notion that the Toyota is the hotrod of the group is just laughable.

But at least Toyota was successful in getting some people fooled.

Haha. No, that is not the reason, GM & Ford have large volume contracts, the actual nimbers sold to individuals was only 2.4:1 ratio

Toyota sells every truck they make, and don't have to discount $15K off sticker to move them.

I don't think Toyota's plan is to try to outsell the others, their plan is to build a very loyal customer base, and they are experts at it.

Interesting, I found listing for many new 2015 Toyota trucks for sale, including some Tacomas too.

Because they found people that will spout whatever BS they say. I've owned several Toyotas, and think they make great vehicles. But some of yall are drunk on the Koolaid.

How am I being fooled by it when I was the person who first pointed it out as the reason Tundra performs like it does? Go back and read the thread.

Not right off the line. The Tundra has more oomph off the line and is the more satisfying daily driver. Dip a fraction of an inch into the Tundra peddle and the power is right there. It's unlike the other trucks. I doubt you have driven one.

Same thing with the GM 6.2 trucks.

Of which hardly any are sold. It's a minority even of the Denali. The 5.7 is the most common Tundra on the road.

And it's still slower than the competition. The GM 5.3 has an identical 0-60 time of 6.7 seconds and identical 1/4 mile time and trap speed of 15.3@82mph. I'm sorry facts get in the way.

Are you not defending it as some seat of the pants hot rod? I feel like you are, ergo, you have been fooled by steep gearing.

ETA: Here we are, your own words.

Because the 5.7 with 4.30 gears has no 'seat of the pants' competition other than the GM 6.2
Which measured tests have proven to be wildly inaccurate.

You missed his point. It's not number of trims as much as it is options within each trim. With Toyota, the dealer nor the final customer has a choice. You can't order a Tundra. You can't do what you can do with GM and order and SLE with so many options it's practically an SLT except for the badge. Toyota makes a certain number of each trim in each color with standard equipment for each trim level and ships them to dealers. What you get is what you get.

You can't do that with an SLE. Keep drinking that Koolaid though.
