Black women aren’t born with wigs, weaves or extensions on their head either.

What about the countless white kids that grew up swimming in the same creeks and lakes and ponds?

None. But it doesn't have to actually affect someone for it to be toxically problematic.

I don’t think Africans want to be lumped in with African-Americans

Now they have to wear the exact same swim cap style as every other competitor.

So another case where actual equal treatment is not equal enough or another case where they are admitting they can’t adhere to same standards as everyone else?

Regardless This is his equality focus not that there might be “females” with a bat & balls competing with black females??

I learned to swim by being thrown into Bayou Petit Caillou, as did most everyone I know.

Nothing. Finding racism in every little thing is a very lucrative business model these days.

The cap was designed for British swimmer Alice Dearing. Correction - not designed for her, but she partnered with the maker of it. Here is a picture of her. Seems her hair is already pretty short, just coarse and thick.

And here's article about her and her addressing the issue. She seems to be taking it mostly in stride.

Swimming in the communities of color is already a phobia. I was taught to swim in a segregated swimming pool because my sister and I were not permitted to swim in the city pools. Therefore, if African Americans did not have access to safe swimming environments, many times they would swim in rivers, lakes and creeks. These unsafe conditions caused many young people of color to drown.

Lol. Black people that think like this are weak.

My brothers, friends and me didnt learn to swim in a city pool. I didnt even know these existed until I was older.

So it hasn’t affected a single one. There probably hasn’t been a high level swimmer that has ever used it but it’s problematic to ban something that has never been used?

A lot is simply classist - and I don’t think anyone would argue that poor people do not have a rough go with just about any health/wellness or happiness metric.

But to only discuss class differentiation topics as race differentiation is sure to be rocky.

As a guy who swam through college, and was just a bit not good enough for the Olympic Trials, I can say there are not many serious competitive swimmers who would want to wear a cap like that anyway.

I knew guys who would wear press on nails because they were faster against the water than natural nails. A cap that has folds and is loose like that will create drag. A thousandth of a second can mean the difference between going from prelims to finals or medaling and not.

A swimmer with a chance to medal with ethnic hair would have longed cut it down to improve water resistance and reduce drag. This is political bs.
