I think it's safe to say 99% of people have never done shite in their lives as stupid as proudly desecrating the memorial of a child that was lynched for the color of his skin.

the problem here is it was a black kid...a memorial to a white/native american/ mexican getting shot up would be thought of as vandelism and a terrible prank though right?

He should post an apology to his Instagram account and make a donation to the local NAACP chapter.

How exactly do you know that though?

Fairpoint, as of now I don't know that they shot the sign. However, it's pretty bad optics if they said "Hey Ben, let's go out to the memorial with our firearms and pose next to it."

This was just horrifically stupid of these guys, but a part of me feels bad that kids can have their lives fricked up significantly and permanently for doing dumb shite in 2019 because of smart phones and the internet.

But he posted this himself. Like wtf.

I obviously think there was likely more to it than "just a prank," but too many situations get made out to be something they factually aren't these days.

This does look really bad on the surface though.

Also their main party each year is literally called "Old South" where the men dress as Confederate era men in the South and the women dress as Southern Belles.

I mean, it's not just a black kid it's a black kid lynched in Mississippi

They obviously picked that sign for a reason (because they knew it'd get them a reaction and double down on their "LOL we're like so racist" bonafides).

Ben clearly didn't follow the Herm Edwards "Don't press send" rule. Cold world.

As a prosecutor, how would you charge these men with a hate crime against a sign?

I would say this was an act of vandalism that was motivated by racial animus...a crime that intended to intimidate and threaten a specific group and therefore calls for an enhanced penalty

Is there a chance they didn't shoot the sign but just saw it had bullet holes and posed with it?

The cops who shot him thought that his blackness was a pretty big problem too.

This isnt some street corner monument to a ghetto OG crack dealer. Emmit Till's death was an integral moment in the Civil Rights movement.

You didn't direct this question at me but, yes, they're also pieces of shite, and I wish they were punished harshly. Not sure how that excuses these guys?
