Oldtimers of tOT, did you ever drink Dr. Nut?

For those that don’t know, Dr. Nut was a New Orleans-based soft drink that was bottled from the 30s through the late 70s (albeit of lower quality in the later years). OTers of culture may know it as Ignatius J. Reilly‘s favorite drink in A Confederacy of Dunces. Allegedly you can recreate the flavor by mixing Dr. Pepper with amaretto. I’m wondering if any of our OT elders can speak to the taste of Dr. Nut. Is it as good as Ignatius thought it to be? Do you reminisce about guzzling Dr. Nut on a warm summer day? I’ll hang up and listen.

It was always better when it was freshly churned

I figured it was something Toole made up for the book; didn't know it was real.

Yes and it was pretty good.

I do remember that soda and did drink a few back in the day as a kid of the 60's. It was kind of a knock-off of Dr. Pepper in taste, but not quite as good.

Have you ever mixed Dr. Pepper with amaretto to try and recreate the taste? And if so did it taste like it?

I like Moxie. Wife thinks it has a disgusting medicinal taste. I can understand how someone might feel that way about it, yet I enjoy it very much.
