In 2000 I ate MREs that were from Desert Storm. They were okay.
I still have three MREs from Hurricane Ida. The salmon colored ones that say “A gift from the people of the United States of America” on the side.
A couple of years ago we were cleaned out the cupboards in the break room at work, and we found a cup o’ soup that was dated 2001. We kept it as kind of an office trophy or something. Maybe I’ll eat it one day.

I took a 7-year-past-expiration tylenol a few days ago... still works.
I think some vitamins and medicines do degrade with time (like, maybe some variants of vitamin k off the top of my head).
Others, like Tylenol, that are more chemically stable, will last indefinitely. And I, too, have taken expired Tylenol, aspirin, etc. and found them effective.
I also still have a bottle of ephedrine pills (like Mini-thins, which were popular with club kids back in the day who wanted to stay up all night but who didn't do coke) I bought on a long road trip in the mid 1990s... a bottle of 250 pills that only cost like $5 at the time... before meth heads ruined it for everyone. Bottle expired in 1998. I've used them as recently as last year a few times and they still work fine when short on sleep. I think I have 10 or 15 left.
Also have finished off tubs of protein powders that were 3 to 5 years expired without issue.

Have eaten honey that was 8-10 years old. Couple years ago around Covid time, drank a couple powerade drinks that were left over from Katrina so about 15-16 years old.

I ate some honey that was crystallized in a plastic bear shaped bottle. It was easily 20+ years old and sat in the back of a pantry. I put the bottle in hot water to get it to reverse. I also put it on the deck in the sun to reverse some of the crystallizing. It was still very good.

She was a traveling physician, 62 and HOTT. What I remember? Had to spit on it quite a bit. Still good-good.

Thanks for reminding me. I have a bag of frozen edamame that I’m going to steam for lunch now.
Do you also grow your own soybean plants to use for edamame? All I need is a 30 ft. long row that I flatten the top 24 inches wide and then plant 3 rows of soybeans in that 24 in. row. The seeds can be planted very close together-----3 inches apart and they grow fine without thinning.
I let the plants grow until they are full of soybean pods and will harvest them all at the same time. I can get close to a 5 gallon bucket of soybeans that way. Then I being them inside and give them a good rinse in my sink a couple times to get off any dirt and then set up my big pot with salted boiling water to blanch them for a few minutes then remove them to cool on my kitchen table on big towels. After they cool I'll pack them in vacuum seal bags and freeze them for later use.

I ate some of an MRE that I got while in the Army in 1984. Tasted just as crappy as then.
