I tried to park the other day in a paid lot.

The meter required downloading an app (no coin option). Then I had to authenticate it, and required me to enter a whole bunch of information, then I realized I forgot the password to the credit card login. So I had to go through a process to get password renewed, but I also forgot my burner email login that I use for these type of apps (I recently updated my phone and my passwords that were saved were wiped out.

15 minutes later, I have my parking secured. All this to save the time of putting a coin in the meter.

Second complaint. Was at one of those fun places with arcades with my kids over the weekend. They force you to get these cards, that you have to put a minimum of $25 into. The games all look like casino games, bright lights and noises everywhere and the kids go through the cards in 5 minutes tops needing to get them recharged.

I remember playing games like Cruisin USA, TMNT, etc on an arcade with one quarter for 20-30 minutes straight

Yeah all of these places are rip offs

You can drop $200-$300 before you know it

For your first complaint, it has nothing to do with saving Time. It saves the parking company a ton of money to not to have to deal with the physical money. They probably don't even have any employees that check the lot on any regular basis.

Same issue with number 2, the games are more like casinos and are designed to extract money from you.

The other day leaving Lowes, the Boy Scouts were selling their popcorn, and wanted to support them. Unfortunately I didn't have enough cash on me, so i asked if they took cards, thinking they would have a Square, but they didn't.

He asked me to get a shot of a QR code, and fill out a form, I told them I didn't have time but thanks anyway...

and people want a cashless society, good luck with that...

If you offer a cash donation they will take it. They just can't ask for it. A $10 donation gives them more support than you buying a $25 thing of popcorn.

Kiddie Casinos just teach kids to gamble early.

They spend forty dollars in quarters to win 30 tickets.

My son goes for 4th and 24 on madden. It’s going to be a dangerous generation.

CASH. Pay with cash as much as possible! I don't want to encourage that cashless society.

I took the kids to Dave and Busters the other day and we had a fricking blast all playing Mario Kart together.

paid lot

I will go to lengths to avoid paying for parking.

People who own/run these lots are scum of the earth.

It's more about gathering your information than just saving on a meter.

The modern parking meters are not the way they are to save you time. It’s cheaper for the lot owner to manage.

Very few places force a minimum. Most allow you to put however much you like.

But I agree that the new games suck and are designed to keep prompting for more money.

I know that businesses have always existed to make a profit, but there has to be some element of wanting to please the customer and not just extract as much money as possible from them by hook or by crook.

This was mid-90s back when malls used to have arcades. My memory could be a little bit fuzzy on one quarter going a half hour, but the point is the games were designed where you can play for a lot longer on the initial payment (token/quarter)

I was playing some Zombie shooting game with my son and we didn’t get hit once thru the first level, and it was still making us re-up payment just to move to the next level

I hear ya buddy. For an arcade game like the original TMNT, if you were good, you could play for a while. An expert could maybe go 20-30 min without losing all their lives.
